22nd SIFFORUM

Shanghai International Film Festival first held its industry panel in 2004 when a Chinese film industry was on the boom. Today, SIFFORUM, along with Awards, Panorama and Film Market, constitute the four tentpole of the festival. Its growth has witnessed the innovation and development of Chinese films, and it is a representation of changes of the film scenes in Shanghai, China and abroad.

For most of the international film festivals, industry panels are put under the overarching frame of film market, while master classes are held by filmmakers who already have a film in the lineup. SIFFORUM, in comparison, is originally and independently curated by the organizing committee with an eye on the popular as well as the avant garde. It is also a channel for policy announcement and a platform of education and entertainment, where the government, the industry and the academics meet and exchange.

The brand and characteristics of Shanghai International Film Festival determine the operational style and recurring motif of SIFFORUM, which, in turn, promotes the brand of the Festival and assists the development of the industry. Each year in June, at the gate of Shanghai Film Center, in the lobby of Crowne Plaza Shanghai,  cinephile and accredited guests could easily bump into peers and respected professionals. SIFFORUM will bring together people who has an interest in either the cinematic art or the film industry, with more than ten panels held throughout seven days, to inform and to inspire.

Opening Session: Chinese Film Industry Summit

Time | 10:00-12:00

In 2018, the national film market continued to maintain a booming development trend, especially domestic films accounted for 62.15% of the total box office, further consolidating the dominant position of the market. With the continuous improvement of people\'s appreciation, the market gradually tends to be rational, and word-of-mouth driving box office has become a reality.

On the 70th anniversary of People’s Republic of China, how could Chinese filmmakers persist in their pursuit of excellence? How could they find inspirations in the people\'s lives and make films with a distinct Chinese cultural undertone? This forum invites leading figures of Chinese film industry to look forward to the golden age of cinema where China translates its size to strength.

How could we establish scientific process management and production standards, and reduce the uncertainty and ensure safety within a mature system?
