The Belt and Road Film Week Overview
Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) launched the Silk Road panorama in 2015. In 2016, SIFF set up “the Belt and Road” Series as a permanent program and entered into cooperation agreements with a few international competitive non-specialized film festivals, such as Tallinn Black Night Film Festival and Cairo International Film Festival. In 2017, during the 20th edition of SIFF, representatives from 14 countries’ film festivals and institutions were invited to sign the “Belt and Road” Film Culture Exchange Memorandum of Cooperation, including Hungary, Greece, Egypt, Philippines, Lithuania, India, etc.

This year, the 21st SIFF will launch a brand-new program: The Belt and Road Film Week. The film week will further expand the range of participating countries, attract filmmakers from all over the world, and build up a worldwide platform for international communication of film culture and the film industry.

The Film Week will also launch its popularity awards, with finalists voting out from the full line-up by professional film selectors, including the Audience Choice Award, the Media Choice Awards (for film & for filmmaker).
The Belt and Road Film Week, welcomes with an open attitude more countries and film institutions to join the Belt and Road cooperation alliance. We also sincerely welcome films, filmmakers, press and audience from all over the world to the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival. Through the medium of film, we shall work together to promote the development of film markets in different countries and areas and depict a promising blueprint of harmonious communication and cooperation through different civilizations.
