Overview of Classic Film Restoration
Preservation Initiative
In 2011, Shanghai International Film Festival started its collaboration with the world renowned luxury watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre and launched the Film Restoration program to repair damaged prints of China's classic movies, preserving the valuable treasures of Chinese film culture.
Charity Auction
The program is financed by auctions co-hosted by Shanghai International Film Festival and Jaeger-LeCoultre, with auction items including the limited edition watches from Jaeger-LeCoultre and the private collections of celebrities. Previous donors for the program are Amanda Seyfried, Nicholas Hoult, NI Ni, Jing Boran, Chen Chong, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Wen Yan, Tan Zhuo, Tao Hong, Tong Dawei, Geng Le, Qi Xi, Ming Dao, Luo Jin, Xu Hongyu, Li Meng, Zheng Dasheng, among others.
Classics Revival
So far, a number of Chinese classic films including FLOWERS OF SHANGHAI, SOUL OF A PAINTER, OUTSIDE THE WINDOW ENDLESS LOVE A BETTER TOMORROW TWO STAGE SISTERS and NEW YEAR SACRIFICE have been restored and screened during the festival, becoming a unique scene in Shanghai.
