The 20th Shanghai International Film Festival Golden Goblet Award Short Film Calls for Entries

The International Short Film Competition for Golden Goblet Award of the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival is calling for entries! The Main Competition, Documentary Competition, Animation Competition and International Short Film Competition constitute the four categories of Golden Goblet Award. The 20th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 17 to 26. At present, the international short film competition is open for submission and a film must be submitted to the festival no later than April 15, 2017.

Founded in 1993, Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is the only competitive film festival in China approved by International Federation of Film Producers Associations. Adhering to its principles of promoting the development of the Chinese film industry, and the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and foreign film industries, Shanghai International Film Festival looks forward to further enriching the types of participating films in order to enhance and strengthen the professionalism and authoritativeness of SIFF through the international short film competition.

 

International Short Film Competition for Golden Goblet Award will spare no efforts to excavate excellent short films with different styles and techniques that fully display unrestrained imagination and rich creativity.

A: A short film is defined as an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less (including all credits).

 

 

A: SIFF covers participation of two categories of short films: Live Action Short Film and Animated Short Film.

 

A: Live Action Short Film: A live action film uses imagery created primarily through practical photographic techniques used to capture physical actors, props, sets, and locations. Documentary short subjects will not be accepted in the live action category.

A: Animated Short Film: An animated film is created by using a frame-by-frame technique, and usually falls into one of the two general fields of animation: character or abstract. Some of the techniques of animating films include cel animation, computer animation, stop-motion, clay animation, pixilation, cutouts, pins, camera multiple pass imagery, kaleidoscopic effects, and drawing on the film frame itself.

 

A: Previews, advertising films, sequences from feature-length films, unaired episodes of established TV series, TV shows or any films exceeding the length of 40 minutes.

 

Q: What are the criteria for the production time?

A: A short film must been completed in the country of origin after January 1, 2016

 

A: The International Short Film Competition accepts video entries from all over the world.

Open www.siff.com> click on “Film Entry” on the right side> register account> check the "Golden Goblet Award International Short Film Competition"> fill in relevant information;

 

Fill in all the necessary information> Submit the application content> the Organizing Committee staff will review the information on the video application;

 

After the review is approved, the system will automatically generate an identification number as the unique identity for the entry video > Please send the sample of the registered short film to the SIFF.

A: SIFF will not charge any registration fee, participation fee in any form.

 

A: 35mm film, non-encrypted DCP or digital video files that meet the following sound and picture projection requirements:

 

 

 

In addition, all films must be submitted in a standard theatrical exhibition aspect ratio.

 

A: The finalists will be announced in late May at the official website of SIFF. Before for that, the organizing committee will contact all short-listed producers and distributors via telephone or e-mail. Therefore, please ensure that the contact information provided upon registration is accurate and available. Please inform the organizing committee in advance if there is any change.
