By Alex Miao

The film festival’s Belt and Road Film Week, launched at Shendi Cultural Center in Pudong on June 15, will have a Latin American flavor.

Director and actor Dong Chengpeng and actress and producer Yao Chen were introduced as promotion ambassadors who will be deeply involved in the week’s activities.

They will use their profiles and industry influence to promote the dissemination of the latest films from countries along the Belt and Road.

The film week will take on special significance with the 50th anniversary this year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the rapid development of Belt and Road initiatives in Latin America.

The screening of Latin American films at SIFF will be prominent.

Another feature will be a Latin American-style carnival atmosphere, including bus parade, card roadshow, and specialty bazaar, in a resort format where film industry discussions and exchanges can be held.

At the closing ceremony, special guests from Latin America will present awards to winning filmmakers.

A special feature of the B&R launch was the awarding of a customized seal on behalf of the film festival and the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance.

It was presented to Péter Madaras, Curatorial Director of the Miskolc International Film Festival in Hungary, by Chen Guo, Director of the Shanghai International Film & TV Festival Center.
