Kiss Me Again by a famous Italian director opens this March

This is the first public opening of the film in China since winning the Golden Goblet Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Kiss Me Again, a drama directed by Gabriele Muccino, won three Golden Goblet awards at last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival. Chinese audiences will get a taste of bittersweet romance, Italian-style.

Kiss Me Again is the sequel of Muccino’s 2001 drama The Last Kiss. One of the most talented Italian directors, Muccino’s The Last Kiss swept away the domestic film festival awards that year and was the best-attended feature as well as winning the Audience Choice Award at the Sundance Film Festival. As a consequence, Muccino was invited to direct The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds, and other films starring Will Smith - all box office successes. In 2009 Muccino returned to Italy to make Kiss Me Again with his original cast, creating waves of nostalgia among audiences again.

Kiss Me Again, still focusing on the plot of The Last Kiss, deals with the relationship between Carlo and Julia, and their friends’ choices in life. The movie is as good as the former one and entered the shortlist for last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival. It was highly praised by the Golden Goblet Award jury and won Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. The jury led by John Woo gave it a near perfect score.

They said this was a movie with a “near perfect director, screenwriter, editing, cinematography, art direction, and cast”. Consistent high performances indicated the caliber of the direction. In addition, Kiss Me Again proved very popular in the Festival’s Movie Panorama with average attendance of 80%.

Shanghai International Film Festival, as the only A-Level festival in China, is dedicated to showing cultural diversity. Now, Kiss Me Again, a critical success and popular art movie has been chosen by SIFF to open to the public in mainland China.  The Executive Vice secretary-general says that SIFF is looking for movies with both commercial and artistic value all the time. Releasing Kiss Me Again shows SIFF is a good international platform to promote movie communication, and the Festival is busily preparing more surprises for audiences.

Sun Hangyu, general manager of the promotion partner Shanghai Huayu Film Company, tells us that SIFF can meet audience expectations every time and as the biggest winner of the Golden Goblet Award, Kiss Me Again shows its commercial value by this release in China.
