World-renowned French director Luc Besson takes his latest film "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec" to the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival. The film was premiered in China last night at Shanghai Film Art Center.
Besson, along with actress Louise Bourgoin, appeared in front of the full house to celebrate the Chinese premiere. All tickets for the screening last night were sold out.
This adventure and mystery feature film is adapted from the French comic artist Jacques Tardi\'s series of the same title. The story takes place in 1912, journalist and novelist Adele Blanc-Sec sails to Egypt to research mummies. But a 136-million-year old pterodactyl egg at the Museum of Natural History hatches and destroys Paris, and it\'s Adele Blanc-Sec\'s mission to investigate and stop it.
"I really hope you\'ll enjoy the trip," Besson said. "The film is very funny in fact."
Bourgoin plays heroine in the film. She was nominated for the Most Promising Actress at the Cesar award (national film award of France) in 2009. This is the first time Bourgoin appears in Besson\'s film, and the director spoke very highly of her.
"She is a very talented actress," Besson said.
Bourgoin also said that she\'s very impressed because the theater is very big, and she\'ll wait and kiss the audience after the film is shown.
Besson is best known by the Chinese audience for his films "Leon" (1994), "Arthur and the Minimoys" (2006), "The Fifth Element" (1997), "Atlantis" (1991), etc. He\'s not only a director, but also a writer and producer.
Besson wrote the script for "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec" as well. He was also one of the writers and producers of the films "Kiss of the Dragon" (2001) and "Unleashed" (2005), both starring action star Jet Li.
Besson wishes the audiences would enjoy the adventure with Adele. The film mixes mummy, dinosaur and Egyptian mysteries, and is a magnificent feast for the eyes and ears.
