Greetings from the Chairman
As the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival is about to begin, on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal CPC Committee and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, I wish the Festival every success, and warmly welcome all guests and journalists from home and abroad.
Focusing on promoting the development of the Chinese film industry and improving the city’s soft power, Shanghai International Film Festival has become the largest and most influential film festival in Asia. The State’s Guideline for Culture Development during the 11th Five-Year Plan Period has unequivocally put the festival on the list of cultural exhibition activities under specific state support. The “Guiding Opinions for Promoting the Prosperity of the Film Industry” issued by the General Office of the State Council has set out clear requests for the development of Shanghai International Film Festival, which points out the direction for enhancing the international impact of the festival under the new situation.
Shanghai International Film Festival is China’s most important international art and culture event during 2010 World Expo Shanghai. Therefore, it will attract more attention and offer more opportunities. The festival has planned many Expo-related activities, which on the one hand will add lustre to the World Expo, and on the other, promote its own image. We will take full advantage of the World Expo to raise Shanghai International Film Festival to a higher stage of development.
Let’s wish the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival a complete success!
