The SIFFORUM: In-depth dialogue by elite filmmakers

 

SIFFORUM was first introduced in 2004 to reinforce the Shanghai International Film Festival market and to provide professional services for the industry. Illuminating discussions by the film elite in SIFFORUM offer the latest hands-on information, guiding the future of world film. The speakers include veterans like Luc Besson, Anthony Minghella, Bille August, Yoji Yamada, Wong Kar-wai, Peter Chan, Jackie Chan, Feng Xiaogang, Tsui Hark, He Ping, Harvey Weinstein, the President of Disney, the President of Columbia, the chairman of the world\'s renowned film festivals, and other notables.

The SIFFORUM of the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival will take place from June 13 to 18, 2010. Taking “China Approaches Global Value” as its theme, the SIFFORUM will consist of nine seminars in four sections, including “The President Lecture”, “Industry Summit”, “Film Roundtable” and “Master Class”, presenting a platform for international professionals to exchange ideas, and providing a guideline to industry development. Weinstein Company CEO Harvey Weinstein, China Film Group Cooperation chairman Han San Ping, Polybona Films president Yu Dong, plus well-known Chinese directors Feng Xiaogang, He Ping, Wang Xiaoshuai, Leon Dai, Pang Ho-Cheung, and respected Korean director Kang Je-Gyu will speak.
 
President Lecture: What Other Films Do We Need? Is it possible for a low budget film to achieve originality by a director\'s distinctive creativity? Can an arty film be made with commercial techniques? John Woo, Jury President of this year\'s SIFF, together with a group of established directors, Xiaoshuai Wang、Ho Cheung Ping、Doze Niu will discuss this issue and share their views with the audience.
 
Industry Summit 1: The New Front for Industry Collaboration Between China and Hollywood will invite major players to brainstorm about China and Hollywood,the key partnership for future world cinema. Harvey Weinstein、Robert Pisano、Sanping Han、Zhonglun Ren、and Xiaogang Feng will speak.

Industry Summit 2: New Orientation of Chinese Film: Made in China by Young Chinese Directors This session will gather top-level professionals from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan to discuss the relationship between the industry and young filmmakers, capital, and creativity, in the hope of laying a better path for the emerging generation – and a new orientation for the country’s film industry.
 
Industry Summit 3: 3D - the Magic Wand to Integrate Animation and Live Action  This session will look at the impact of Hollywood 3D technology on Chinese cinema and what it can really do. Subjects include “How to balance technology and creativity?”; “How to meet the challenges?”; “How can we train the young filmmakers?” and “What vision we can have for future Chinese cinema?”
 
Film Roundtable 1: New Media Channels for Film Distribution This session asks: ”How can cinema go from confrontation to mutual reliance and eventually mutual benefit?” “Is there any possibility for non-theatrical cinema and new media to create a whole new field of expansion?”Film Roundtable 2: Cinema as Medium - Marketing Strategies of Product Placement This session is designed for CFPC participants and integration marketing professionals to explore more cooperation potential.

Master Class: This year\'s Master Class will be divided into two sessions. The first session will invite industry veterans to give instructions on the creative process and approaches of presenting ideas and attracting potential investors. The second will be a pitch-and-catch training session for CFPC projects.

A complete idea or script comes from brainstorms. This session is aimed to give instructions on how a director teams up with a producer and how they bring out the best creativity by coordinating all elements and finally make the best pitch to potential investors.
