The 13th Shanghai International Film Festival unveils June 12

 

 

The 13th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 12th to June 20th with preparations fully underway. Against the backdrop of the Chinese film industry entering into a golden era of development, the Shanghai International Film Festival – which will be conincide with dates of the  of the Shanghai Expo - will have much more attraction, attention and influence than ever before. This year\'s film festival is expected to set records, not only for the number of movies, exhibitors, film projects, but also for the stars and guests on the red carpet, and the visitors attending the film forum. A series of movie- watching activities inconjunction with the Expo during the period of Film Festival will provide rich out-of-garden cultural programs for Chinese and foreign tourists visiting the Expo-gardens and film fans.

 

The number of competing movies hit a new high

Despite only a 17 years history, the authority and influence of the main competing units, the Jin Jue Award and the Asian New Talent Award, in the Shanghai International Film Festival have gradually taken form. As of May 4, 2327 movies from 81 countries and regions have entered their names for Golden Goblet Award, Asian New Talent Award and International Student Shorts Award, setting a new record. The number of the movies of in the world premiere, international premiere, and Asian premiere categories have also increased rapidly. Not only have the quantity of movies reached new heights, but the standard of the movies has increased, with record numbers of quality films with rich content, displaying diverse styles and excellent workmanship being entered, evidence of the growing trend for many internationally renowned directors taking the initiative to enter their new works into the film festivals competitions or exhibitions.

 

The success of the authoritative international jury panel in its role of collecting quality movies has also resulted in raising the overall profile and influence of the film festival. This year’s international judging committee is consist of 7 people and John Woo, a famous Chinese director has been invited to be a member of the judging committee of Jin Jue Award.

 

The international movie show creates the vision collection

 

The International Panorama Unit of the Shanghai International Film Festival attracts over 200 thousand film fans every year and displays both classical golden oldies together with the latest movies, as well as a diverse blend of multicultural movies guaranteeing something for every film fan to enjoy.

 

According to the 2010 SIFF program the films are divided into several sections including: official selection, View China, Tribute To Masters, Global Village, Spectrum, shorts and documentaries.

 

The “Tribute To Masters” will review films of the famous American director Woody Allen, while the section called the “City Classical Movies” will contain movies directed by the masters from all over the world, which will be given the name of a European city. Woody Allen is good at depicting city stories, especially those that show the aspects of New York. In the spirit of the 2010 Shanghai Expo theme, the City Class Movies will also offer interpretations of Better City, Better Life and explore the urbanization of modern man.

 

Additionally there will be a special section – the Global Village – dedicated for the ongoing Shanghai Expo. Many countries and regions including five northern European nations, Canada, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Israel, China and Taiwan will display brilliant movies during the Film Festival. Meanwhile the unit will also interact with these countries and regions’ exhibition pavilions.
