Danny Boyle to chair SIFF\'s International Jury 2009

Danny Boyle, the 81st Academy Award Best Picture director for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, will chair the International Jury in the coming 12th Shanghai International Film Festival. It was announced by Madam Tang Lijun, SIFF Managing Director at the press conference in Beijing on March 25.
As one of the finest directors in the world today, Danny Boyle has a wide spectrum of critically acclaimed and commercially successful film credits: SHALLOW GRAVE, TRAINSPOTTING, A LIFE LESS ORDINARY, THE BEACH, ALIEN LOVE TRIANGLE, 28 DAYS LATER, MILLIONS and SUNSHINE. His latest work, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE won 8 Academy Awards late last February, the most for any film of 2008, including Best Picture and Best Director.
MadamTang says it\'s not a coincidence for Danny to head our jury panel. He enjoys such a high reputation in the world film industry that we have tried to invite him in the previous editions, however, regretfully failed to have him because of his fully occupied schedule. The great success of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE stiffened our resolve to honor him in this year\'s festival as Jury President, as one of those SIFF is keeping efforts on is to further enhance its market fuction through coproduction events. Danny Boyle is absolutely one of the leading pioneers with his SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, which is considered as a good example of film coproduction and culture exchange between the East and the West. As the fastest growing country in film industry, China is the one that the world is watching closely at a time of global economic crisis. In this context, Danny Boyle\'s collaboration with SIFF will be full of expectation to the whole industry.
At the press conference, Danny Boyle delivered a speech, expressing confidence in working with China as well as the support to the Shanghai International Film Festival.
As the only FIAPF accredited A-category international film festival in China, SIFF is now becoming an ideal stage to promote film development and showcase diversity of film cultures. The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held June 13 - 21, 2009.
