The Shanghai International Film Festival and MOFILM Announce Strategic Partnership to promote mobile

The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), has today announced its support to the MOFILM Mobile Short Film Festival, to be hosted by Kevin Spacey, in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress (16-19th of February 2009) and its intention to work with MOFILM on promoting mobile film within the entertainment industry.

The Shanghai International Film Festival, founded in 1993, is China\'s largest and most influential high-profile international film festival. It is also the fastest growing film festival in Asia. SIFF has focused on areas of Film Competitions including \'Jin Jue Award\', \'Asian New Talent Award\' and \'International Student Shorts Award\', SIFF Mart including \'Film Market\', \'China Film Pitch and Catch\' and \'Co-production Film Pitch and Catch\', SIFFORUM and the International Film Panorama. Among the above, the International Student Shorts Award (ISSA) serves to inspire and cultivate young emerging talented film makers. The Festival advocates the art of movie-making itself and seeks to encourage a diverse range of artistic talent with a particular focus on encouraging young film makers.

The MOFILM Mobile Short Film Festival is the biggest mobile film festival in the world, highlighting the increasing influence of the mobile medium on the entertainment industry, bringing together art, commerce and technology. The 2009 initiative comes on a wave of a new generation of sophisticated multimedia enabled mobile handsets and value added operator services, providing new opportunities to enjoy short form video. This year\'s event will be hosted by Kevin Spacey, two-time Academy Award winning actor and director. The call for films ends by the 21st of January and films can be uploaded at www.mofilm.com. MOFILM also works with mobile operators and service providers to distribute \'made-for-mobile\' content.

"One of SIFF\'s strategic focus is to feature the industry\'s hot spots and support young talent". Mobile devices are rapidly becoming the key way for people to interact with information and entertainment. We believe this is a very new but promising opportunity for the entire film industry, especially for emerging younger film makers. Our collaboration with MOFILM will highlight talents in this field as well as help to create a full-featured and pragmatic mobile film festival." said Miss Tang Lijun, Managing Director of the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Ralph Cochrane, co-founder of MOFILM commented "MOFILM is very much at the cutting edge of technical and creative innovation within the film industry. We are delighted that The Shanghai International Film Festival shares our vision, in particular their work to highlight emerging talent and we look forward to working with them closely in the future."

The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival will start from June 13th to 21st, 2009 and the 3rd MOFILM Festival will take place as part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from the 16th to the 19th of February 2009, with more than 50,000 visitors expected.
