SIFF PROJECT | 2020 SIFF PROJECT Ripple of Life Kicks off Shooting at 2020 Year End

On December 30, Ripple of Life, directed by Wei Shujun, produced by Huang Xufeng, and co-written by Kang Chunlei and Wei Shujun, started shooting in Zixing City, Hunan Province. The project was shortlisted in the Pre-production Project sub-unit of 2020 SIFF PROJECT.

Ripple of Life is made up of four little stories that take place in Yong’an Town, which tell the childhood yearning for power, love out of reach, new life that cannot start and sudden death respectively. They represent the childhood, youth, middle age, and old age of a person, and can be seen as the story of a man’s lifetime.

Yang Zishan is the heroine of the film, which stars Liu Yang, Huang Miyi, Wang Jiajia, Luokang and Wang Chen. Cui Nan and Zhou Mengyou make a guest appearance. Yang Zishan has displayed her excellent performance in many films. She has been granted many awards for her role Zheng Wei in So Young. Later, she won the Best Actress award of the China Movie Channel Media Award in the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival for her play in Miss Granny. During the kick off ceremony, Yang Zishan said: “Mr Wei Shujun is a young, talented director. I really want to work with him. I also acted with many directors in the film, which made me very exciting.”

Wei Shujun’s maiden feature film Striding into the Wind was the only Chinese feature film shortlisted in the official unit of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. Ripple of Life uses the same production team as that of Striding into the Wind. More interestingly, such a story taking place in a southern town also brought together other Chinese young directors with different artistic characteristics, including Director Yang Pingdao of A Yang Pingdao Film and My Dear Friend (SIFF PROJECT 2016), Director Song Chuan of Ciao Ciao, Director Liang Ming of Wisdom Tooth (SIFF PROJECT 2012), Director Zhai Yixiang of Mosaic Portrait, Director Yang Jin of Don’t Expect Praises, etc. In Ripple of Life, they worked on the film as actors, telling the life choices and dilemmas in the film.
