People’s Literature and Art Is Created by the People, and “Progress with Art” Played the Assembly of

The special activity of the short video unit of Shanghai International Film Festival was held in Crown Plaza Hotel yesterday. In the activity, the active participants from the “Progress with Art” theme shot video solicitation: Li Fahong of Department of Infectious Diseases, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University; Wu Husheng, chief actor of Shanghai Ballet; Fan Shiguang, documentary director of Shanghai Media Group; Lu Chunbiao, curator of Songjiang District Culture Center, Shanghai, and Zhao Songtao, representative of Shanghai New Literary Group and host of Tianyun Crosstalk Association accepted the honor and were commended on the scene.

More than 24,000 short videos were played for nearly 1,300,000,000 times accumulatively

At the beginning of Gengzi year of the lunar year, the unexpected outbreak disturbed our life, and countless civilian heroes made the heroic contributions to the epidemic prevention and control. They were doctors, neighborhood committee workers, property managers, express delivery brothers and all the persons sticking to their posts. They wrote the responsibilities and duties with original intention and guarded the lamps and lights of myriad families. At the beginning of February, Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC initiated the “Progress with Art” theme short video solicitation in the whole city, and Shanghai Mass Art Center specifically organized and promoted it and encourages the common people to record the things around, the touching things and meaningful things with the cameras to eulogize the heroes fighting the epidemic and convey the spirit of Shanghai. After the activity was held, more than 24,000 short videos were gathered on the platform of Douyin, which were played for nearly 1,300,000 times accumulatively. We progressed with “art” during the epidemic, and the trickles converged into the rivers. In the heroic city of Shanghai, the heroic Shanghai people played a collective chorus of human love. The people’s city is built by the people, and the people’s city serves the people. The people’s literature and art is created by the people, and the people’s literature and art serves the people. The “Progress with Art” activity fully reflected the Shanghai literature and art workers’ spirit and quality of being closely linked with the people and keeping pace with the age and played the “assembly” in another battlefront.

From long videos to short videos

The “Progress with Art” theme short video solicitation, as an important activity of Shanghai Citizens Art Festival, received the active response from all sectors of society, and many individuals, units and institutions enthusiastically uploaded the videos which obtained extensive thumbs up and attention. In the special activity of the short video unit of this Shanghai International Film Festival, Li Fahong of Department of Infectious Diseases, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University; Wu Husheng, chief actor of Shanghai Ballet; Fan Shiguang, documentary director of Shanghai Media Group; Lu Chunbiao, curator of Songjiang District Culture Center, and Zhao Songtao, host of Shanghai Tianyun Crosstalk Association were specially invited as the participant representatives to the scene and accept the “honorary creator” commemorative certificate jointly issued by Shanghai Citizens Art Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, Documentary Center of Shanghai Media Group set up a film crew and spent more than two months in travelling between Shanghai and Hubei to complete the interview and filming of the special program for fighting the epidemic Life Matters. Chief Director Fan Shiguang also shared his creation thoughts on the scene. Fan Shiguang said, “We stayed in Wuhan for more than one month and filmed the materials more than 50T. At present, 6 episodes of the documentary film have been ready to broadcast. However, I think that the short video is also a great challenge to us. I do not think those who can make good long videos will certainly make good short videos. Next, after the all the long videos of Life Matters are broadcasted, we shall re-develop the relevant shot videos, and it may be the more difficult work. We shall also thank all the people for helping us.”

The centralized solicitation of the “Progress with Art” theme short videos has temporarily come to an end but the citizens and literature and art enthusiasts still can upload the works in the topic of “Progress with Art” and continue the exchanges and displays.
