ANTA Official Selection | Wild Grass

The filmmakers of Wild Grass, which is listed in the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) Asian New Talent Award (ANTA) Official Selection, attended the press conference today (July 28). Producer Sheng Yanhong and Director Xu Zhanxiong discussed with the media and audience on the creation of the film. Starring Ma Sichun, Elane Zhong and Huang Jingyu, the film tells the life stories of three young men leaving home for a big city, pursuing love and dream and getting crazy for them.

Buckwheat flower symbolizes lovers. Sheng Yanhong revealed that they want to express the theme of love and dream with buckwheat as the title. The roles played by Ma Sichun, Elane Zhong and Huang Jingyu are constantly defeated by fate, but they can recover from that. Despite the setbacks in their pursuit of dreams, they can still "grow wildly" and regain momentum. This film vividly portrays the tenacity and fighting spirit of young people in real life.

Director Xu said that he hopes the audience can see themselves in the film. "I\'m sure that many of them share the same experience with the roles. Just like them, the audience may have inadvertently seen hopes at the desperate moments of their lives. They may suffer from the same setbacks as those in Wild Grass at their different life stages. I\'m looking forward that the film can bring more hopes and power to them."

Three years ago, the "seed" of Wild Grass took root and sprout in the soil of SIFF, which has seen its "wild growth" all the way. The project was selected into the SIFF project category in 2017, and awarded the title of "Most Creative Project". After that, the project kicked off. In this year\'s SIFF, Wild Grass was finally listed into the ANTA Official Selection. After its premiere, many audiences were deeply touched and shed tears by this love and dream story. A fan commented: "Everyone can see their own stories in this film: struggling for love and dream, and a life that they want while they are young."

The film will premiere at the Double Seventh Festival on August 25.
