Golden Goblet Awards Competition Films | LANE 4: Swimming Sisters Desire to Fight
On June 20, the Golden Goblet Awards Competition Film LANE 4 from Brazil was screened in Shanghai Film Art Center. After the screening, the producer and two actresses took the stage to share some interesting scenes about both on and off the screen.
As the second Golden Goblet Awards Competition Film of Brazil in this Shanghai International Film Festival, LANE 4 broke the pure and fresh stereotype of youth film, depicted an "inwardly struggle" between two adolescent girls, moreover, the ending is "big reversal", leaving the audience with space for reverie and aftertaste. The producer said the ending is the biggest transformation in the story, and he said, "It symbolizes the growth of the two girls." In the view of the creator, LANE 4 not only shows the charm of swimming, but also reflects the life and psychological transformation of adolescent athletes, trying to arouse the attention of the society to the problems of adolescent growth.
In the film, Amanda, a 12-year-old swimmer, lives a life of family, school and training hall day after day. It seems that her parents give "Great Care" for her, but actually they gradually neglect the care of her daughter because of busy work. The conflict between the two generations becomes increasingly worse like a snowball. Amanda, an introvert girl who is in adolescence, feels out of place in the whole swimming team, especially in the face of Priscilla, the popular "star" of the swimming team, her negative emotions are infinitely amplified. Their rivalry spilled over from the pool into every aspect of their lives...
During an interactive session at the conference, the two actresses revealed that they are also swimmers in their true life. Last year, when they were just 12 or 13, they were spotted by director Emiliano Cunha, a former swimming coach. It was both a dream and a tough challenge for them, who had never done any acting before. She said, "The swimming part was okay because we are professional swimmers. The hardest part was how to build the character, especially the character who is a very introverted girl, and I\'m the opposite of her character."
In addition to the fact that the swimmers fit seamlessly into the characters, the two have a lot of similar experiences in their daily life. She said, "We used to like a boy who was the most popular member of the swimming team, but then the boy went to another swimming team and we made up."
It is worth mentioning that the title of the film is also unique. Named after "Lane 4", the pool with the largest number of swimming champions, it means "The Strongest Person". In response, the two former swimmers explained: "The best swimmers in the heats are in lane 4 in the finals. Of course each of us wants to be the best."
