In 1993, Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) was born in the tide of reform and opening up. In 1994, it was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations as the first and only international competitive feature film festival in China to this day. Over the past three decades, SIFF, upholding the philosophy centering around “Asia, Chinese Film, and New talents” coupled with its mindset of being a pioneering, professional, and global event, has catalyzed positive contributions to the development of China’s film cause and industry, as well as the growth of Shanghai’s core competitiveness and cultural soft power, while consistently meeting the cultural demands of the general public who love cinema. Held annually in June, SIFF has evolved into a multifaceted event featuring key sections such as the prestigious Golden Goblet Awards, Film Panorama, SIFFORUM, SIFF MARKET, Opening & Closing Ceremonies, and exclusive activities such as the Belt and Road Film Week, and more. Drawing thousands of films spanning over 100 countries and regions, it brings together a diverse array of industry professionals to Shanghai, with attendance figures reaching hundreds of thousands and its global impact underscored through media coverage by hundreds of reporters, enriching the cultural landscape of the city and also making it all the more vigorous and alluring.
