The 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival Calls for Entries !
The 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 15 to June 24, 2019. Online calls for entry start from November 15, 2018. Online submission for “Golden Goblet Award”, “Asian New Talent Award”, “International Film Panorama” is open on the official website of Shanghai International Film Festival www.siff.com. The deadline for submission is March 31st, 2019.
Adhering to the motif of “Focusing on Asia, Promoting Chinese Films and Supporting New Talents”, the Shanghai International Film Festival, founded in 1993, has walked through twenty-one editions so far. In virtue of the rapid development of China’s film industry and the construction of Shanghai into an International cultural metropolis, SIFF has been building a professional, international, and beneficial cultural exchange platform for foreign and domestic films. With authoritative and professional awards, dialogues between domestic and international industry elites, negotiation on film trading, financing of SIFF projects, an unprecedented line-up of stars and jury members from all over the world, splendid international film panorama and audience meetings, it provides an excellent, professional and pragmatic cooperation platform for industry professionals from different regions, expanding its brand influence.
At the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival in 2018, a total of 3447 films from 108 countries and regions were submitted, a significant jump of nearly 1,000 from last year’s 2528. Among them, 492 great Chinese and foreign films were programmed and screened at 45 cinemas in Shanghai during the festival. Golden Goblet Award and Asian New Talent Award are widely acclaimed for their professionalism, artistry and authority.
After rounds of selection, Swiss-Mongolian co-production OUT OF PARADISE won Golden Goblet Award for Best Feature Film. Jury Grand Prix and Award for Best Screenplay went to Chinese film ALA CHANGSO. Award for Best Director went to Rodrigo Barriuso and Sebastián Barriuso for A TRANSLATOR, a Cuban-Canadian co-production. Tye Sheridan was awarded “Best Actor” for American film FRIDAY’S CHILD, for which Jeff Bierman won the Award for Best Cinematography. Award for Best Actress went to Isabelle Blais for Canadian film TADOUSSAC. French-Belgian co-production CARNIVORES won Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement. Award for Best Animation Film wen to Japanese film MAQUIA: WHEN THE PROMISED FLOWER BLOOMS. Award for Best Documentary Film went to THE LONG SEASON from the Netherlands. Chinese film WHITE SHEEP IN THE CAR was awarded “Best Live Action Short Film”. And Award for Best Animated Short Film wen to the Russian film TWEET-TWEET.
The set-up of Asian New Talent Award aims to explore potential new talents in Asia, selecting excellent movies and filmmakers from different countries and regions by means of awards nomination. At the 21st? Shanghai International Film Festival, Chinese film THE ROAD NOT TAKEN won Asian New Talent Award for Best Film. Award for Best Director went to Japanese director Yui Kiyohara for OUR HOUSE. DING Xihe was awarded “Best Actor” for Chinese Film LOOKING FOR LUCKY. Award for Best Actress went to Negar Moghaddam for Iranian film DRESSAGE. Shireen Seno was awarded “Best Script Writer” for Philippine film NERVOUS TRANSLATION. And Award for Best Cinematographer went to AO IEONG Weng Fong for Chinese film BLUE AMBER.
Shanghai International Film Festival also holds projects such as “The Belt and Road Show” and “SIFF World Express” to communicate and cooperate with other world film festivals and film institutions , creating an international platform for Chinese films and new talented directors.
