Graduated from China Central Academy of Drama’s Performance major in 1984, characteristic and supremely talented JIANG Wen starred in Hibiscus Town (1986), Red Sorghum (1987), A Woman for Two (1989) and many other films and won numerous awards for his acting including two Best Actor awards at Hundred Flowers Awards in China. The films he starred in have been awarded Golden Bear of Berlin Film Festival, Crystal Globe of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and other awards of importance, winning him international reputation as an actor.

In 1993, JIANG Wen wrote and directed his directorial debut, In the Heat of the Sun. It made its mark at the Venice Film Festival, and later garnered six Golden Horse Awards including Best Film and Best Actor. It was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the top ten films of 1995 worldwide. He went on to finish The Sun Also Rises (2007), Let the Bullets Fly (2010)，Gone with the Bullets （2014） and such important works. As a director, JIANG influences the audience with his remarkable charisma, romantic style, outstanding originality and imagination; at the same time, he becomes world renowned for his artistry. His new film Hidden Man is about to be completed.

CHANG Chen (Actor, Taiwan, China)

CHANG Chen first earned his attention at the age of 14 when he took the lead role in Edward YANG’s masterpiece A Brighter Summer Day. He was thus nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards and acquired much attention from critics and cinephiles as an up-and-comer in the field. CHANG has successively worked with some of the best Asian auteurs including WONG Kar-wai, Ang LEE, HOU Hsiao-hsien and CHEN Kaige, in films Happy Together, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Grandmaster, The Assassin and such classics. He’s been nominated four times for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards, three times for Best Supporting Actor at Hong Kong Film Awards, and numerous international merits. In 2006, he won Best Actor at the 3rd Osaka Asian Film Festival for his performance in The Go Master. In 2017, the film he starred in, Mr. Long, was selected into main competition at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. Until 2018, five features he starred in, Happy Together, 2046, Breath, Three Times, and The Assassin, have all been nominated in the main competition at Cannes Film Festival. In 2018, he won Best Actor at Beijing College Student Film Festival for his role in Brotherhood of Blades II: The Infernal Battlefield. In the same year, he was on the jury for main competition at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

Ildikó ENYEDI (Director, Screenwriter, Hungary)

Since ENYEDI turned to feature film directing, she has written and directed five features and several shorts, with which she’s won more than forty international prizes, including the Golden Bear for Best Film for On Body and Soul in 2017. Her film, My 20th Century, was chosen as one of the 12 best Hungarian Films of All Time, and selected among the 10 best films of the year by The New York Times. In addition to script writing (as winner of the Grand Prize of the Hartley Merrill International Screenwriting Prize), she lectures in Switzerland and Poland, and teaches at the University of Film and Theatrical Arts in Budapest. She has been members of the main jury at Berlin, Moscow, San Sebastian film festivals and others. She was awarded the Balázs Béla and the Merited Artist Prizes, and has received the Republic President’s Order of Merit Cross. In 2017 she became a member of the American Film Academy.

Semih KAPLANOĞLU (Director, Screenwriter, Producer, Turkey)

Semih KAPLANOĞLU is one of the most acclaimed writer-director-producers of contemporary filmmaking in Turkey. Kaplanoğlu made his debut feature Away From Home in 2001, and was awarded Best Director in Singapore International Film Festival. In 2005, his second feature Angel’s Fall received Best Film Awards in Nantes, Kerala and Barcelona Alternative Film Festival. 

His third feature Egg, which premiered in 2007 Quinzaine des Realisateurs, brought Best Director awards in Fajr International Film Festival, Valdivia International Film Festival, and Bangkok World Film Festival. The film received around 30 awards including important national awards such as the Golden Orange (Antalya International Film Festival). In 2008, Milk premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, and also screened at festivals around the world, earning him international awards, such as FIPRESCI prize at the Istanbul International Film Festival. His recent feature Honey, the third part of the Yusuf Trilogy, is the winner of Golden Bear award in 60th Berlinale.

Naomi KAWASE (Director, Screenwriter, Producer, Actress, Japan)

In 1997 when KAWASE’s first feature film Suzaku won the Camera d’or at the Festival de Cannes, she became the youngest filmmaker to receive the award. In 2007, Mogari won the Grand Prix at the Festival de Cannes. Genpin (2010) won her the FIPRESCI Prize at the 58th San Sebastian International Film Festival. Hanezu (2011) and Still the Water (2014) were both invited as official selections for the official competition at the Festival de Cannes. In 2015, An was selected as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard (Film d'ouverture) at the Festival de Cannes. In 2018, her latest feature film Vision (starring Juliette BINOCHE) will be released around the world.

In 2013, KAWASE became the 1st Japanese filmmaker to be invited as the juror for the Festival de Cannes. She was bestowed the Chevalier de l‘Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French Minister of Culture in 2015. In 2016, KAWASE was the jury president for Cińefondation at Cannes Film Festival.

David PERMUT (Producer, USA)

David PERMUT is a multiple Academy Award and Emmy nominated producer whose career spans four decades and over 40 films.

He produced two of the highest grossing films in 1987, Dragnet starring Tom HANKS and Dan AYKROYD and Blind Date starring Bruce WILLIS and directed by Blake EDWARDS. PERMUT produced the action blockbuster Face/Off (1997), starring John TRAVOLTA and Nicolas CAGE, directed by John WOO and Consenting Adults (1992) directed by Academy Award nominated director Alan J. PAKULA. In 2016, his film Hacksaw Ridge (2016) directed by Mel GIBSON premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was named one of the Top 10 Films of the Year by the National Board of Review. Apart from best action movie and best actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards, the film was also nominated for three Golden Globes, six Academy Awards and won the Oscars for film editing and sound mixing. His most recent film The Polka King starring Jack BLACK premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017.

In addition to studio films, PERMUT has produced a number of independents including the critically acclaimed Charlie Bartlett starring Anton YELCHIN and Robert DOWNEY JR., Youth in Revolt (2009), Struck by Lighting (2012), and Match (2014).

QIN Hailu (Actress, Screenwriter, Producer, China)

QIN Hailu has portrayed impressive roles in over 50 works of art throughout her career. Renowned for her superb acting skills, she has won dozens of international and domestic film and television awards.

In 2000, the film she starred in, Durian Durian, was selected in the main competition at the 57th Venice International Film Festival, and won her Best Actress and Best New Performer at the 38th Golden Horse Awards, Best New Performer at the 20th Hong Kong Film Award. In 2011, A Simple Life she starred in was also one of films in main competition at the Venice International Film Festival. In the same year, A Simple Life, The Piano in a Factory, and the film she both co-wrote and starred in, Return Ticket, were all nominated at the 48th Golden Horse Awards, earning her Best Original Screenplay for Return Ticket. She was invited to be on the jury of runoff selection for the 54th Golden Horse Awards.

Pirjo HONKASALO (Documentary Director, Cinematographer, Screenwriter, Producer, Finland)

HONKASALO’s 1980 film Flame Top was a Cannes official selection. In the 1990s, she turned to feature documentaries, directing the prize winning The Trilogy of the Sacred and the Satanic (Mysterion, Tanjuska and the 7 Devils, and Atman). She has also directed the stunningly beautiful The 3 Rooms of Melancholia, a story of how Russian and Chechen Children were psychologically affected by the war. 

She has had well over thirty retrospectives of her work worldwide, acted as a member of several international juries and is actively giving international master classes. She is the first Finnish female cinematographer who makes features, acts as both a director and a cinematographer. She is a Doctor of Honor of Aalto University and a member of the American Film Academy.

Yoav SHAMIR (Documentary Director, Israel)

SHAMIR’s films have screened at international film festivals, and were broadcast on the following channels internationally: Arte/ZDF, VPRO, BBC, Channel 4, SBS Australia, CBC Canada, etc. His critically acclaimed Award winning documentary feature films include Marta & Luis (2001), Checkpoint (2003), 5 Days (2005), Flipping Out (2007) and Defamation (2009). His work reflects his passion to probe and uncover difficult and polarizing subject matter through observational lens, delivering penetrating and ethically challenging interviews with an accessible charm, which entertains and appeals to a broad audience.

WU Wenguang (Documentary Director, China)

Born in 1956 in Yunnan and graduated from Yunnan University with a degree in Chinese Literature, he has founded the Village Documentary Project and the Folk Memory Project. The Folk Memory Project was shown at 2012 Shanghai Biennial, and the Village Documentary Project was exhibited at 2015 Venice Biennial Chinese Pavilion.

WU’s films have been selected by international film festivals such as Hong Kong, Yamagata, IDFA, Berlinale and he was invited as a jury member at IDFA, Berlin, Yamagata, and Nyon Film Festivals.

Jacques-Rémy GIRERD (Animation Director, France)

Founder of Studio Folimage in 1981, Jacques-Rémy GIRERD has been writing and directing animated films since 1978. His works include Charlie's Christmas (1987), Raining Cats and Frogs (2003), Mia Mia and the Migoo (2008), C’est bon (2013), Aunt Hilda! (2014). He has also produced A Cat in Paris (2010) and Phantom Boy (2015), with the former nominated at the Oscars in 2012.

Sunao KATABUCHI (Animation Director, Screenwriter, Japan)

KATABUCHI met Hayao MIYAZAKI and began working as a scriptwriter on Miyazaki's films while still a student. He was assistant director on Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989), and debuted as director with TV series Famous Dog Lassie (1996). He then directed Princess Arete (2001), and the acclaimed animated movie Mai Mai Miracle (2009). Katabuchi’s latest animated movie, In This Corner of the World (2016), ranking first in 2016 Kinema Junpo Best 10, has swept with triumph in domestic and international awards including Japan Academy Prize and Annecy International Animation Festival.

SUN Lijun (Animation Director, Scholar, China)

His representative works include Zhang Ga the Soldier Boy, Running Freely, etc. His digital animated movie Zhang Ga the Soldier Boy, taking six years to combine modern computer animation technology with traditional Chinese style paintings, won the 2005 China Film Huabiao Award, and was nominated the 2007 Golden Rooster Award for Best Art Film Award. In 2008, it was shown at the Annecy Film Festival in France. Since then, he was awarded the Huabiao Film Awards for Outstanding Animation for Running Freely and Legend of a Rabbit in 2009 and 2011 respectively. Meanwhile, Legend of a Rabbit was nominated for the Huabiao Film Awards for Outstanding Film Technology and won the Golden Rooster Award for Best Animation. In 2013, his Fantastic Adventure won the Golden Rooster Award for Best Animation again and was exhibited at Cannes Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival in the following year.
