Country of Maple’s Film Charm |Screening list of FOCUS CANADA released
The Canadian film industry is known as the “Northern Hollywood”. Thanks to its favorable geographical location, strong producing expertise and policy support from the local government, numerous Hollywood movies have chosen to be filmed and produced in the Country of Maple, such as the X-Men series and Deadpool of Marvel, Twilight that sweeps the whole world, The Revenant which wins the Oscar for Leonardo DiCaprio… Meanwhile, the Canadian filmmakers are also working hard to gain their position in the Cinema of the United States.
For the recent years, the film collaboration between China and Canada has been getting closer: many scenes of Finding Mr. Right are shot in Canada, while the Shanghai Vancouver Film School is also making attempts to develop film talents with international views. The Film Coproduction Treaty between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, which entered into force this May, is expected to raise the cooperation between the two countries to a higher level. According to the Treaty, the coproduction in the two countries is entitled to the same treatment as national citizens, including government tax subsidies, financial support and so on.
As one of the major events of SIFF Global Village Panorama, the FOCUS CANADA this year will show a number of new Canadian films. Let’s appreciate together the charm of light and shadow in the Country of Maple.
