First-time Filmmakers Now Asian New Talent Award-Winners for \'Thithi\'
Reddy said he was stunned on receiving the award.
Indian film "Thithi" was named Best Film last night at the Asian New Talent Awards ceremony of the 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival.
Directed by Raam Pratap Reddy,"Thithi" tells the story of three generations of sons reacting to the death of their grandfather in a remote village in South India. All actors in the movie were farmers, not professional actors.
“I’m stunned," said Reddy on receiving the award at the Daning Theater presentation.
"This film was actually made over three-and-a-half years with a bunch of first-time filmmakers, all of us are first-time filmmakers," he said.
"We went to the village and tried to make the film as honest and true as possible.”
Reddy and Ere Gowda also won the Best Scriptwriter award for "Thithi."
Taiwanese director Chen Yujie picked up Best Director award for "Lost Daughter."
“This film expresses the emotions between people on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan," Chen said."I’d like to thank Shanghai International Film Festival for the love they showed to this film,” he added.
