Changing Face of Chinese Film Industry Discussed at Festival Summit
Tong Dawei was performing on I-SIFF Gala Night with two children actors from "Scandal Maker" yesterday.
Future development of the Chinese film industry and the role of co-production ventures dominated discussion during a forum of the 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival yesterday.
Leading participants in the China International Joint Movie Summit were Zhang Qing, CEO of Mili Pictures, Ji Erwei, executive director of Reach Glory, Jiang Wusheng, CEO of United Entertainment Partners, and Li Yi, general manager of 1905.com.
Zhang said traditional filmmaking companies were slowly fading away in the competition with new and more powerful organizations. And China is seeing the start of "copycat" films in the market.
"Tickets to all films cost the same. There\'s no advantage in price competition. So eventually the brand is represented by quality. Only quality productions will lead to the establishment of a brand," he said.
Zhang said the elite foreign film production companies are more capable in terms of the technology aspect of filmmaking.
And he admitted that, as a Chinese company, Mili Pictures invites foreign companies to help with the production of films. But on the other hand, it ensures its Chinese team helping the foreigners learns to improve.
