Asian New Talent Award Jury Members Look to the Future for Regional Films

 

  Members of the Asian New Talent Award jury met the media yesterday during the ongoing 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival.

  Launched in 2004 and an important on-going program of the festival, the award has identified and fostered many new film industry talent in past years.

  A lot of young Asian filmmakers have grown into veterans, including mainland directors Ning Hao and Gao Qunshu, and Iranian Hassan Yektapanah.

  The chairman of the 5-member jury, Hong Kong director Derek Yee, said his criteria for an outstanding film is its artistry."Young talents need a lot more practice, even in some inconspicuous positions in the film industry," Yee said.

  South Korean producer Jonathan Kim is eager to see more new co-productions between China and South Korea.Japanese filmmaker Koji Fukada expressed his wish for wider collaboration among film industries in Asian countires.

  Mainland director Zhang Meng, known for "The Piano in a Factory," said times are still difficult for art-house film directors and it is important to nurture more younger generation audiences.
