2016 SIFF Online Film Solicitation is about to end

 

The 19th Shanghai International Film Festival launched online film solicitation on November 15, 2015. Sections including Gold Goblet Award, Asian New Talent Award, Jackie Chan Action Movie Week, International Film Panorama etc. have since been open to registration on the official website of SIFF (www.siff.com).

At present, the registrations of nearly 1400 films from 97 countries and regions have been received and the selection work is under way.

Regulations for Golden Goblet Award

The feature length films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation in Main Competition for Golden Goblet Award:

1. Film that has been completed in the country of origin after June 1, 2015.

2. Film that has not been in the main competition category of other FIAPF-accredited non-specialized competitive film festivals before SIFF; Film that has not been released commercially other than their country of origin.

3. World premiere or International premiere is given priority.

4. The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

5. Format: 35mm film print or DCP;

6. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

The feature length documentary films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation in Documentary Competition for Golden Goblet Award:

1. Film that has been completed in the country of origin after June 1, 2015.

2. World premiere or International premiere is given priority.

3. The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4. Format: 35mm film print or DCP;

5. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

The feature length animation films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation in Animation Competition for Golden Goblet Award:

1. Film that has been completed in the country of origin after June 1, 2015.

2. World premiere or International premiere is given priority.

3. The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4. Format: 35mm film print or DCP;

5. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

Regulations for Asian New Talent Award

Any feature film with a length longer than 70 minutes, which is one of the first two feature films of an Asian director, actor, screenwriter and photographer and completed after June 1, 2015, can participate in the competition of the following six grand awards, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Screenwriter and Best Photography no matter it’s released to the public or not.

1. All films applying for ANTA must be completed in the country of origin after June 1, 2015.

2. Format: 35mm film print or DCP complying with the SPECIFICATIONS

3. The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

4. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

International Film Panorama regulations

The feature length films that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation in Panorama (except for tribute or retrospective);

1. Film that has been completed after January 1, 2015;

2. The minimum running time is 70 minutes;

3. Format: 35 mm film print or DCP

4. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

Regulations of Jackie Chan Action Movie Week

Action Movies that meet the following conditions may be chosen for invitation in Jackie Chan Action Movie Week.

1. Film that has been completed in the country of origin from April 1st, 2015 to March 31st, 2016.

2. The minimum running time is 70 minutes.

3. Format: 35mm film print or DCP.

4. Authorize Shanghai International Film Festival to screen the selected film in designed cinemas.

5. Films in languages other than English must be subtitled in English. The subtitling expenses are the responsibility of the producers. The producers must provide the Festival with complete English subtitled lists which in accordance with those on the print.

6. A DVD screener (in standard or high definition format) for preview purposes could be provided. The version of the submitted film in DVD screener must consistent with the print.

The competition events of the SIFF, the Golden Goblet Award and Asian New Talent Award, have won high praise for their professionalism, artistry and authority. The 18th SIFF in 2015 attracted 2,096 films from 108 countries and regions.Golden Goblet Award winning films include The Night Watchman by Pierre Jolivet, the new work The Sun Stroke by famous director Nikita Mikhalkov which represents Russia’s "bid for Olympics",The Dead End by Chinese director Cao Baoping and so on,which highlights the key influence of the film festival.

Since 2015, animation and documentary have been included into Golden Goblet Award, which makes the awards system more complete and professional. The winning animation Song of the Sea won unanimous praise of the judges and the audience. The documentary The Verse of Us planned by Wu Xiaobo and directed by Wu Feiyue and Qin Xiaoyu won Golden Goblet Award for the best documentary.

The SIFF has also launched all-round cooperation with the world’s other outstanding film festivals in succession, so as to provide excellent Chinese films and prominent filmmakers with an international stage. At present, the SIFF has achieved cooperation with Busan International Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival, presenting outstanding works to each other.

The 19th SIFF will be held from June 11 to 19, 2016, and the online application for film solicitation will be closed officially on April 15, 2016.
