Members of International Jury Panel Commenting on New Talents in Asia

South Korean director Kim Han-min is the President of the International Jury Panel of the Asian New Talent Award, his film Battle of Myeongryang was a box office success and won the Award of Best Film at the 2014 Korean Grand Bell Awards.

At the press conference joined by the International Jury Panel of the Asian New Talent Award, Kim said that after watching four nominated films, he’s looking forward to the following screenings.

“I hope to see vivid films with a sense of cohesion, which send messages with souls,” Kim said.

Yee Chih-yen, director and scriptwriter from Taiwan, China, explained that watching films of new directors is a chance to see different opinions and personalities, adding new blood to the film industry.

“These films are the best, because the expression of personality before being devoured by the film industry is precious,” Yee said.

French producer Nicolas Brigaud-Robert spoke about the importance of recognizing new talents in Asian cinema.

“The film business in Asia is the fastest growing in the world, it’s not easy in the big boom for new voices to be heard, and our job of this selection is to find out the voices and personalities in this industry,” he said.

Malaysian actress Sinje Lee and Chinese actor Huang Xuan are also on the Jury Panel. “I’m very excited because films of new directors are pure without disturbance and burden, and for me it’s also a good opportunity to learn,” Huang said.

The award ceremony of Asian New Talent Award will be held on Friday, June 19.
