Young Talent on the Minds of Asian New Talent Award Jury Members

Asian New Talent Award Jury Members
The jury panel this year is chaired by Iranian film director Amir Naderi. Together with Chinese director Cai Shangjun, Korean director Sung-ill Chung, Japanese director Sabu, and Chinese actress Xu Fan, the international jury has the job to discover and support new Asian filmmakers.
Amir Naderi is one of the most influential filmmakers in Iran. His previous works include The Runner, Water, Wind, Dust, Sound Barrier and Vegas: Based on a True Story.
"Today I\'m not very familiar with Chinese films, but I\'m waiting to see something surprising," Naderi said.
When talking about the Iranian cinema, Naderi said that young people try to document new life and the new generation of filmmakers is very important for Iran.
Xu Fan is one of the most popular actresses in China, playing in movies like Be There or Be Square, Cell Phone, and Gone Forever with My Love.
She said that being a jury member meant she needed to be professional because the Asian New Talent Award is a great opportunity for young filmmakers.
"It\'s not fair to compare new directors with experienced filmmakers," she said, "so it\'s good for them to have their own competition."
A total of 10 films are competing this year for three awards: Best Director, Best Picture and Jury Prix.
