The SIFF Film Market and Project Market will start today at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
This year\'s Film Market has attracted more than 800 film companies and 2,600 buyers from around the world, half of them overseas participants.
The Film Market integrates almost every aspect of the film industry, including post-production, copyright authorization, marketing and film by-products.
Also, it provides exhibitors and buyers with a more professional, personal service. Buyers can get detailed information about every exhibitor and reserve a meeting in advance. A screening hall is also set up to watch film clips. The 300 or so films exhibited at the festival\'s international film panorama program are also available for sale in the market.
As China\'s only sales point for film, the SIFF Film Market provides a platform for domestic small and moderate budget films and serves as a bridge for buyers, producers and distributors from both home and abroad.
The 15th Shanghai International Film Festival also includes a new brand, the SIFF Project, which merges the activities of CFPC (China Film Pitch and Catch) and Co-FPC (Co-production Film Pitch and Catch) to stimulate more projects and resources for industry. It is also intended to arouse public awareness of new Chinese film talent, and to enhance cooperation between China and foreign countries.
According to organizers, more than 250 meetings have been set up for the Project Market. Both young and veteran film directors will bring their new projects to the market to find possible investors and distributors.
In recent years, the market has also pre-empted trends in domestic film creation. Three years ago martial arts film projects were popular but then light-hearted, back-to-the future films proved to be hot.
Last year a lot of projects which focused on city lives were presented while this year film directors seem to attach more importance to the relationship between humanity and the environment.
