SIFF Initiating a New Era for Films
As one of the key activities of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), Mobile SIFF has received broad attention and wide acclaim since its establishment in 2011. With unique vision and keen sensitivity for the film industry, Mobile SIFF aims to provide an international platform for original forces and promote new talents in the film industry. During the 15th SIFF, Mobile SIFF will launch 4 key events including Mobile Short Film Selection, Short Film Screening, New Media Forum and Mobile SIFF Ceremony.
Doze Niu Chairs the International Jury for Mobile SIFF with a record number of films
Thanks to last year\'s success, this year\'s Mobile SIFF will keep on presenting excellent Mobile Short Film Selection activities. To date, there has been more than 10 thousand applications to enter the event from around the world.
The International jury for this year\'s Mobile SIFF will be chaired by famous director and actor Doze Niu. Other members of the panel include Malaysian director Tan Chui Mui and Chinese director and actor Du Jiayi.
Doze Niu shot to fame with his debut film "What on Earth Have I Done Wrong" as his first film, His film “Meng Jia” was an official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival, and he will be back there this year with his latest work “Love”.
Malaysian director Tan Chui Mui is known for his short films. Chinese director and actor Du Jiayi\'s impressive performance in "Bathing" earned him a good reputation and his first film "Kora" was one of the most successful films in 2011.
More than 30 short films from 15 countries have been selected as nominees for 10 awards including Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Playwright. The nominees include "Old Man\'s Adventures" by Chinese director Huang Lei, Oscar nominee "RAJU" and "Teacher" by Italian Actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta.
Innovative New Film Projects Favored by Short Film Selection
The new projects like "Love Shanghai-City Short Film", "Female Short Film", "Best Annual Short Film Selection" and "China Got Talent Short Film" are all included in Mobile SIFF this year.
Co-sponsored by the SIFF organizing committee and the Press Office for Shanghai Municipality, "Love Shanghai-City Short Film" looks at the spirit of Shanghai through story-telling. "Love Shanghai-City Short Film" will use films instead of previous publicity methods to present Shanghai. Some of the excellent films will compete in other international film festivals. The Female Short Film series will include works by four Chinese female directors -- Liang Yongqi, Huang Yi, Tian Yuan and Jin Yimeng. Hong Kong actress Liang Yongqi will shoot her first film "Lucky Cookies"; Shanghai actress Huang Yi will has put together "Exchange" whose plot centers around a female college student in Guizhou Province who hopes to build a new teaching building. Jin Yimeng\'s "My Love" tells the story of a woman with cancer; "Blind Sweets" directed by Tian Yuan depicts a story between a female psychotherapist and her patient.
The competing films were selected from Qiyi, Sina, Sohu, Tencent, Tudou and Youku. They are: “My Way” (Xu Hua’an), “How AreYou, I Am Fine” (Ma Zhixianng), “Special Service” (Huang Bo), “I Do” (TianMeng), “Holy Doctor” (Wang Zhi) and “Little Husband And Wife” (Qu Rongda)
"China’s Got Talent Short Film" will screen stories collected since April 2012 which are directed by the "China’s Got Talent" crew.
In addition, Mobile SIFF cooperated with College of Film and Arts at Shanghai University to present "China-US College Students\' Short Film Selection" with a view to unfolding student directors and promoting their originality in film creation.
Dialogue with Film Industry Elites on New Media Forum
Its was a year of struggle for the Chinese film industry in 2011 in that the traditional Chinese film market met strong competition from Hollywood blockbusters and a squeezed mew media platform. In such circumstances, how could the Chinese film industry and mew media seek new cooperative modes to ensure their prospects?
This year, New Media Forum will invite traditional film industry elites and new media talents to hold conferences on the establishment of a constructive relationship regarding issues like the emerging micro film industry and the re-merging of films and new media.
The Mobile SIFF award ceremony will be the highlight of this year\'s Mobile SIFF event.
Mobile SIFF has worked closely with CIWEN and China Mobile in soliciting and releasing creative short films. Mobile SIFF aims at nurturing a new management and profit pattern via mobile phones. This year\'s Mobile SIFF is to run from 17 to 21 June.
