Co-FPC Paves Way for Investors to Assess 25 China Film Projects
Yesterday\'s Co-production Film Pitch and Catch (Co-FPC) program attracted directors, producers, and more than 30 buyers from home and abroad looking for movie joint-venture and financing opportunities.
A total of 25 Co-FPC projects with market potential and co-production appeal were presented to film companies, including New Look Film Entertainment and Shanghai Ciwen IT Co., Ltd.
The projects featured global themes and distinctive Chinese or Asian elements. Many were expected to be filmed and produced in China.
A Romance In Rome, presented by the Draco Tar (Beijing) Culture Development Co., Ltd, tells a unique love story of a couple who, after a seven-year relationship, both feel tired and bored with each other.
Zhuo Shunguo, film producer and company general manager, said about 85 percent of the movie would be shot in Italy.
"The film\'s budget has almost been solved," said Zhuo. "During the festival, we\'re eager to find more opportunities in other aspects of trans-national cooperation, such as worldwide distribution and marketing."
Zhuo has been producer, supervisor and distributor of more than 80 films in the past 20 years and believes that a good creative story is essential to any film project.
"Before a film is sent to break into overseas markets, it should first suit the tastes of local audience and never lose its original flavour." he added.
Famous French writer-director Christian Lara brought to the festival his new project East Wind West Wind, a comedy romance adapted from a novel by Pearl Buck.
It\'s the story of a changing Chinese family told through the experiences of two children: a daughter who marries a young man to whom she has been promised by tradition, and a son who studies abroad and returns home married to a Westerner.
It exposes interesting cultural and conceptual differences between the East and West, as well as contrasts between two generations of Chinese.
"China\'s film market is becoming more and more open and mature," said Lara. "It has a great culture but it is not easy for foreigners to understand. We want to mix our culture in the movie with Chinese culture and tradition."
Talented Chinese actress Mi Kwan Lock, impressive in Lara\'s film Emoticon, is expected to be the project\'s leading actress. The film will be shot next year in Sichuan Province and Shanghai.
