Barry Levinson, director of Rain Man, to Chair the Jury Panel of the Golden Goblet Award

 

 
Barry Levinson, Academy Award winning director, screenwriter, and producer, will be the Jury President for the Golden Goblet Award at the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be held June 11th to 19th.
 
As the only A-category international festival in China, the SIFF always attaches great importance to inviting judges of international standing, especially the Jury President of the Golden Goblet Award. In recent years, directors such as Luc Besson, Danny Boyle, Wong Kar Wai, John Woo, and Chen Kaige have lent their reputations and extraordinary influence to enhance the authority and reputation of the SIFF.
 
BARRY LEVINSON, an Academy Award-winning director, screenwriter, and producer, has crafted an enviable reputation in the film industry, skillfully blending literate and intelligent visions into his films.
 
Mr. Levinson won the 1988 Best Director Oscar for Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. This film brought him the Academy Awards Best Picture and Best Director, and the Best Picture Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 1987, he directed Robin Williams in the comedy Good Morning, Vietnam, which went on to become one of the year\'s most acclaimed and popular movies. In 1991, Bugsy, directed and produced by Levinson, was nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Mr. Levinson has kindly accepted the invitation from the SIFF. Tang Lijun, SIFF’s managing Director, thinks of Barry Levinson as a renowned film master of great talent, and his films have impressed Chinese cinemagoers deeply. The SIFF is honored to have him be the Jury President of the Golden Goblet Award.
 
The 14th SIFF will kickn off on June 11 and Barry Levinson together with other six international judges will attend the opening. Besides, Levinson\'s classic works will be shown in the Tribute to Masters section.
