The 25th SIFF PROJECT is scheduled to take place in Shanghai from June 13 to 16, 2022 and now calls for submission of high-quality film projects by filmmakers around the world. Representatives of the shortlisted projects will be invited to participate in the related events of the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).
SIFF PROJECT is an influential film project financing programme in Asia. Since its inception in 2007, it has successfully held 15 sessions and witnessed the production of 84 projects, among of which many have won honors at major film festivals and received wide attention and affirmation from the industry. SIFF PROJECT is not only an incubator for outstanding works, but also a key platform for the industry to discover new talents for Chinese-language films. Being committed to combining industrial resources, supporting emerging filmmakers for Chinese-language films, and promoting China-foreign co-production, it has gradually developed four sub-units: Pre-production Project, Co-Production Project, New Talent Project, and Work in Progress Project. It will shortlist a total of 30 to 40 projects annually, and provide supporting services of incubation, financing, and promotion for projects in different stages.

In 2021, SIFF PROJECT received the submission of a total of 324 valid projects, and 31 projects were finalized, including 11 for the "Pre-production Project", 3 for the "Co-Production Project", 8 for the "New Talent Project" Projects", and 9 for "Work in Progress Project". The shortlisted projects varied widely in types and themes, and have aroused enthusiastic responses in the film market. During the event, a total of 645 negotiation meetings and three rounds of "Work in Progress Project" trial screenings were held.
"Pre-production Project" aims to select more mature director teams or develop more complete feature film projects.
"Co-Production Project" serves to promote the co-filming, co-production and cooperation of Chinese and foreign film industries, and support feature film projects with the potential for international cooperation.
“New Talent Project” is designed for the first or second feature film project of Chinese directors to facilitate SIFF to support newcomers of Chinese-language films. During the event, the project party will make public presentations to the entire industry and the media.
"Work in Progress Project" is geared towards feature film projects that have already started shooting, are still in the shooting process, or are in post-production, to provide them with more targeted post-production, domestic and foreign distribution and film festival promotion support.
