SIFF X Piaget "SIFF YOUNG" Makes New Achievements

Today, Shanghai Vancouver Film School held its graduation ceremony of 2021 in the Yanchang Road campus of Shanghai University. Shanghai International Film Festival joined together with its official partner and designated jewelry brand Piaget awarded scholarships to outstanding students to encourage young filmmakers to carry forward the spirit of craftmanship of the older generation of Chinese filmmakers and contribute to the future and development of Chinese film, which is also the latest achievement of the further fulfillment of the SIFF X Piaget "SIFF YOUNG" (hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”).

At the graduation ceremony, ten fresh and former outstanding graduates, including Huo Zhenning, Luo Maoliang, Wang Chenhui, and Liu Haoran, received scholarships. To the new generation of young filmmakers, Jiang Weimin, Executive Dean of Shanghai Vancouver Film School, made a speech and said that film is a lifelong study and practice. "There is no end for learning. You have come into contact with simulated practice in school, but it is not real-world industrial practice and social practice. Industry, society, and life are all more vast and complicated. The work you are engaged in is worthy of your whole life, and your life will thereby get sublimated".

In recent years, China's film industry has entered the "fast lane". For film creation in the new era, talent training is of top priority, while significantly driving the progress of Chinese film. As the only international non-specialized competitive film festival in China, SIFF casts spotlight on "Asia, Chinese-language film, and new filmmakers", and has long been concerned about the growth and development of young filmmakers and exploring long-term support mechanisms. This year, SIFF and Piaget launched the SIFF X Piaget "SIFF YOUNG" to bring together the craftsmanship of the film industry and the century-old heritage of fine workmanship inherited by Piaget to pay tribute to the masters behind the scenes, while providing scholarships for young filmmakers who are about to enter the industry or continue studies in colleges and universities to effectively support the growth and development of Chinese film professionals.

As an integral part of SIFF X Piaget "SIFF YOUNG", from June 14 to 15 this year, the "Master Class" was held successfully. Moreover, thanks to the Plan, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Shanghai Vancouver Film School, and Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University have also established the "SIFF X Piaget "SIFF YOUNG Scholarship", which covers film and television photography and production, 3D animation and visual effects, visual media and sound design, art design and other disciplines.

The hundred-year film art on a ceaseless journey. Piaget and SIFF joined hands to boost the long-term development of film art through a series of activities such as tribute to film art and behind-the-scenes filmmakers, as well as support and encouragement schemes for young filmmakers to write another glorious chapter of "inheritance of extraordinary craftmanship and excellence".
