SIFF PROJECT | 2019 SIFF PROJECT’s Project "All, or Nothing at All" Starts Shooting Recently in Shanghai

On July 9, the feature film "All, or Nothing at All", directed by Zhang Jiajun and produced and made by Factory Gate Films, launched shooting in Shanghai. This is the first feature film of young director Zhang Jiajun, and it was shortlisted for the 22nd SIFF Project in 2019. The film, telling about the story of dual emotions between several young people at the beginning of this century, is starring An Yu, Chen Xiaoyi, Liang Cuishan, and Wei Ruguang, and Chen Yanqi, director of "Day Tripper" (SIFF PROJECT 2021), host Shen Shiqi, street dance artist Badu, musician C-Low, etc. will contribute playing.

The film develops around two stories, "all" and "nothing at all". In a shopping mall, young people compete with and comfort each other in a reincarnation-like story. Each performer will play two completely different roles in the film to interpret two love stories that end up with nothing in two parallel spaces echoing with each other. The story aims to bring out the extraordinary spirit of young people in the new era. This bold and interesting author's film will touch a string among the audiences through thought-provoking, sincere and delicate emotional expression.

According to the producer, the dual stories of the young people in the city, love, dreams, and life situations, the change of their identities, and the reconstruction of the relationship between the characters in the film are metaphors for other possibilities we long for but cannot understand. "These are two love stories that took place in the mall, or there is actually only one."

The project, shortlisted for the 2019 SIFF PROJECT, explores the relationship between people and the city with a fine and gentle expression. Through the contrast between the two states of "all" and "nothing at all", it reflects the impermanence and possibilities of current life with a unique form, and an enchanting style.

Director Zhang Jiajun graduated from the London Film School and was selected as one of the six young Asian directors for Asian Film Academy (AFA) at the 22nd Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF). His feature film screenplay "The Ocean" was favored by the jury led by the well-known director Hirokazu Koreeda and won the top prize of AFA that year. In addition, his self-written and directed short film "Following" was selected for the 2019 Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, and was screened at the Barbican Center in London as an outstanding representative, and won the LFS Cinematography Award. In 2020, Zhang Jiajun's short film "If You See Her, Say Hello" scooped the Special Jury Award of the 52nd Visions du Réel in International Medium Length & Short Film Competition.

As for the film production team, the art director Hee Young Pyun graduated from the GSD Department of Architecture of Harvard University, and her architectural design works can be found in Beijing, Seoul, Venice and other places. As a co-director or art director, she has participated in the production of films such as "Following" and "If You See Her, Say Hello" directed by Zhang Jiajun. The film styling director August is a fashion stylist, who was formerly responsible for styling for magazines such as "King Kong Magazine", "Nowness", "Biede", and "Bazaar Art". Another styling director Yilei is a fashion designer and graduated from University of the Arts London, who has participated in the modeling and costume design of art short films many times.

After four years of preparation, "All, or Nothing at All" has officially entered the shooting stage, and we look forward to the screening of the stories of young people in the new era on the big screen soon.
