Joint Distribution and Screening of Major Films Paying tribute to the Centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in Yangtze River Delta

Hosted by the Yangtze River Delta Distribution and Screening Alliance, the "Celebrating the Centenary of the Communist Party of China -- Joint Promotion of Major Films Produced in the Yangtze River Delta" was launched today at the SIFF Market of the 24th SIFF.

Zhou Huilin, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Ge Xuebin, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Film Bureau, Cha Jielian, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Provincial Press and Publication Bureau (Provincial Copyright Bureau), Wang Mingzhu, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Film Bureau, Gao Yunfei, Deputy Director of publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of Shanghai Film Bureau and other leaders of the Publicity Departments and Film Bureaus of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui attended the event. In addition, representatives from more than 30 provincial and municipal industry associations, movie theaters, and film administrative authorities in the region, including Shanghai Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, Zhejiang Film Screening Association, Jiangsu Omnijoi International Cinema, and Anhui Film Group, attended the event to discuss the development plan and the future of the industry for film distribution and screening in Shanghai, Jiangshu, Zhejiang and Anhui.

This year marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. At the important historical moment when the glorious past meets with the new era on a new journey, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui have each launched a key film celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, including the reproduction of convening of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China “1921”; the film "Childhood Zhou Enlai" focusing on Premier Zhou Enlai’s childhood growth experience; the film "Red Boat" to present the birth of the Communist Party of China in an all-round way through the red boat spirit; the film "Love on the Tula River" showing the selfless dedication of China Railway workers for the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. "1921"’s co-director Zheng Dasheng, "Childhood Zhou Enlai"’s director Xu Geng, "Red Boat"’s film chief planner and executive producer Zheng Zhong, "Love on the Tula River"’s director Wang Mingjun also came to the event to promote their respective films. Representatives of major cinemas and film administrative authorities in the Yangtze River Delta attended the event, such as Shanghai Film Co., Ltd., Ningbo Film Company, Hefei Film Distribution and Exhibition Co., Ltd., Shanghai Lianhe Cinema, Grand Cinema, Zhejiang Star Light Cinema, UME International Cineplex, Shanghai Red Star Macalline Pictures, etc. have expressed that they will closely collaborate and integrate resources, turn their respective advantages and strengths into common advantages and strengths, and do their best to distribute and screen the four key films produced in the Yangtze River Delta to create a strong movie-viewing atmosphere for celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

In 2019, to thoroughly implement the important spirit of General Secretary Jin Ping’s high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta, the Film Bureaus of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui established the Yangtze River Delta Film Distribution and Screen Alliance to "focus on high quality development and pool powers”. On the basis of the existing film distribution and screening system in the Yangtze River Delta, it will further build a pragmatic and efficient information exchange and cooperation coordination mechanism to jointly promote the integrated development of film distribution and screening in the Yangtze River Delta with higher quality. Since its establishment, the alliance has achieved remarkable results in building an industry exchange platform, cultivating talents in the film industry, strengthening the screening of art films, and joint distribution and screening of key films. In 2019, the key film "The Climbers" produced by Shanghai to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was promoted by the alliance. The first-day filming rate in the Yangtze River Delta region was as high as 36%, and the total box office exceeded 1 billion, ranking among the top ten films in 2019 by box office.

The total box office of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui in 2020 accounted for about a quarter of the total box office of the whole country. This region is a major box office market in China's film market and has made outstanding contributions to the development of China's film industry. In the next 3 to 5 years, the Yangtze River Delta Film Distribution and Screening Alliance will use the existing distribution and screening resources to develop more and stronger resources, and play the leading role of Shanghai, and the strengths of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui. Following the principles of government guidance, industry initiative, and multi-party participation, a regional synergy will be formed to promote the high-quality and coordinated development of film distribution and screening in the Yangtze River Delta region, and to do a good job in the distribution, screening and promotion of more key and excellent films produced in the Yangtze River Delta.
