The Official Promotional Video of the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival Released
The 24th Shanghai International Film Festival releases today its official promotional video. Film artist Tian Hua, actors Zhang Yi, and actress Zhou Dongyu gathered in front of the lens to unbosom their sentiments and pay tribute to the film art. As the practitioners of Chinese film industry and outstanding representatives of the three generations of filmmakers, they together convey with all sincerity the firm faith of “creating for the times, and for the future”.
Over the past century, the rapid growth and major achievements of Chinese films are inseparable from the efforts and dedication of filmmakers generation after generation. Coinciding with the centennial of the founding of the CPC, this year is the 80th years in the well-known film artist Tian Hua’s career journey. In the 1950s, the movie “The White-haired Girl” made Tian Hua, who played “Xi'er”, a household name. The older generation of film artists represented by Tian Hua had endeavored to present a series of historical and realist domestic film classics such as “Blooming Flowers and Full”, “The Daughter of The Party”, “In and Out of Court”, etc. With superb acting skills and outstanding contributions to the Chinese film industry, Tian Hua was honored the 30th Popular Film Hundred Flowers Award for Lifetime Achievement, the 12th China Film Society of Performing Art Award for Lifetime Achievement and the first Best Actress Nomination of the Golden Rooster Award and other awards.
At the shooting site of the promotional video, the staff brought Tian Hua the original film of “The White-haired Girl”, which filled the 93-year-old artist with emotions. She watched part of films on the scene and took a photo with the film. This volume of original film means a lot, which seemingly shares with Tian Hua the true essence of the film art: “Film is time, recording the extraordinary hundred-year history of twists and turns across all odds.”
In recent years, as the creation of Chinese films ushers in a booming era, more and more domestic quality works have made appearance on the international film stage, spreading Chinese culture around the world, telling Chinese stories, and further powering our country to steer from a large film market to a country with a strong film industry. As one of the backbone Chinese filmmakers in the new era, Zhang Yi is fortunate enough to witness this great era. This well-recognized talented actor has created many impressive characters in films such as “Operation Red Sea”, “My People, My Country”, “Sacrifice”, “Cliff Walkers” and other films, and is the winner of the 30th Golden Rooster Award for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role, the 29th China TV Golden Eagle Award for the Audience’s Favorite Actor, and the Golden Lotus Award for Best Actor at 12th Macau International Movie Festival, and many other awards. “Film is a dream, drawing each other closer, and depicting the hope of mankind” is the true confession of passion for the film art by filmmakers in the new era represented by Zhang Yi.
For a long time, the older generation of film artists has instilled their persistent pursuit and spirit of devotion into every contemporary young filmmaker. Zhou Dongyu is such an outstanding young actress quite favored by the audience. She has starred in a series of domestically produced masterpieces such as “Under the Hawthorn TREE”, “Soul Mate”, “Animal World”, “Better Days”, and has won the 33rd Golden Rooster for Best Actress, the 35th Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress and the 14th Huabiao Awards for Outstanding Emerging Actress. “Film is power, conveying the irreversible ideals and faith ever and ever.” As a filmmaker in the new era, she has set an example with real actions.
Bestowed with the statements and confessions of three generations of Chinese filmmakers, the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival in June will further play an international platform value, boost the development of Chinese film, and compose a chapter of film art for the century of glory. “Go with the film and set out for the future.” Setting foot on the new journey of the new era, Chinese filmmakers will forge ahead with earnestness in creation, and China's film industry will surely sail even farther through wind and waves.
