SIFF XR｜Where Films Meet Fantasies, A Cinematic Journey Awaits You This Summer

Where cinema meets gaming, light and shadow weave dreams. As blockbuster films, animations, and games increasingly converge with cultural tourism resources nationwide, cross-industry collaborations between entertainment, travel, commerce, and sports are capturing widespread attention - and unlocking vast opportunities. Riding this wave of crossover cooperation, the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), in partnership with Putuo District Administration of Culture and Tourism, proudly presents SIFF XR, launching on June 14, 2025. Over three days, a curated lineup of screening works leveraging AR, VR, and immersive technologies will redefine storytelling by blending film, gaming, live performance, and tourism into groundbreaking interactive experiences.

This year’s SIFF XR will showcase 16 masterpieces from across the globe, including world and Asian premieres, across diverse genres. Audiences can “step into the dream” from the perspectives of Du Liniang or Liu Mengmei, freely navigating through Mnemosyne inspired by the Eastern classical masterpiece The Peony Pavilion; follow Golog Unbounded to Guoluo, Qinghai, capturing the natural beauty in its pristine state; or become observers in works like Nana Lou and Jack & Flo, finding emotional resonance in others’ lives... With state-of-the-art head-mounted displays (HMDs) and sensory tech, they can experience “cutting-edge tech” products, exploring more possibilities of film-game interaction through the deep integration of multi-dimensional sensory interaction and virtual reality.

In addition to the aforementioned works, don’t miss outstanding productions such as Alice in Wonderland, Lunar Landing, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the Putuo Special Section!

SIFF XR of the 27th SIFF will be held from June 14 to 16, 2025, with a three-day offline screening at the Huayi Brothers Cinema in Shanghai Changfeng Joy City. Reservations will open on the Damai App at 12:00 on June 10. Stay tuned!
