Press Conference of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance

 June 9

On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance, SIFF will invite representatives of the Alliance, domestic and foreign filmmakers, media and representatives of the shortlisted films to witness the progress made by the Alliance, launch the new Belt and Road action plan and envision the future.

 

The Belt and Road Film Week Screening and Meet & Greet

The theme of this year's Belt and Road Film Week is "Dialogue", to highlight the emotions and reflections on and off the screen, and the moments of resonance therefrom. 20 of the latest films at SIFF will accompany you on an adventure of film art across borders and through time and space. The 8 finalists, selected by professional selectors, will compete for the "Media Choice Award for Filmmakers", "Media Choice Award to Films" and "Audience Choice Award."

 

Among these 20 films, there will be meet & greet sessions organized for the screenings of ABSENCE, YUNI, BAGHDAD MESSI, SIX WEEKS, VALERIA IS GETTING MARRIED, SIGURNO MJESTO, TEOREMA DE TIEMPO and ROAD TRIP WITH MOM. 

 

The Belt and Road Film Week will also present 6 selected foreign films in Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Hefei, allowing more audiences in the Yangtze River Delta region to experience the charm of SIFF and the flavors of countries around the world at their doorstep.

 

The Belt and Road Film Week Workshop

The Belt and Road Film Week Workshop will bring together senior industry professionals from film festivals and film companies to communicate with film creators. By looking into the successful international communication cases of local stories, they will discuss the practical strategies of connecting content creation with international production and distribution, share experience and look forward to the future. 

 

The Belt and Road Film Culture Roundtable

 

June 12

Time: 14:00-17:00

Venue: Jinjue Hall, Crowne Plaza, Shanghai

 

Coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Film Festival Alliance, SIFF will engage representatives from members of the Alliance, Chinese and foreign filmmakers, and representatives from the film industry to talk about cross-border film cooperation, the cultivation of young film talents, and the sustainable development of film festivals, and the outlook of film exchange and cooperation based on the Belt and Road initiative. During the forum, Shanghai International Film & TV Festivals, Co., Ltd. and the School of Journalism at Fudan University will jointly launch a research report on “Cross-cultural Communication Strategies for International Film Festivals with the Theme of the Belt and Road Initiative - A Case Study of Shanghai International Film Festival in Practice”. Two roundtable discussions will also be held on the topics of "International Communication of Local Stories" and "The Survival and Sustainability of Film Festivals".

 

Closing Ceremony of the Belt and Road Film Week

 

June 13

The closing ceremony of the Belt and Road Film Week is specially curated by SIFF for the Belt and Road Film Week, where the winners of the week's three honors will be unveiled. The closing ceremony will also involve face-to-face exchanges between Chinese and foreign filmmakers, industry professionals and other guests to share experience and insights from the film and television industry.

 

During the Belt and Road Film Week, while enjoying films from around the world and interacting with filmmakers from all walks of life, guests from all over the world for this event will also have the chance to learn more about Shanghai and local culture; they will delve into Pudong with local guides on a cultural tour to visit food markets and taste Chinese specialties to further understand the cultural charm unique to Shanghai.
