Science - film Integration: Viewing Modes for “Future Cinema”!

How can we use technology to realize our cinematic dreams? In 2024, Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), in collaboration with Putuo District, is offering an answer with its SIFF XR section! While hosting forums on the future film industry, this section will leverage AR, VR, MR, and other imaging technologies to plan XR screenings, providing citizens with diverse immersive interactive experiences.

Viewers may be personally on the scene across the screen, stepping into the protagonist’s world from a first-person perspective, immersing themselves in the flowing stories of each frame and the emotions within each note. The sensory boundaries extend infinitely, making the virtual world within reach, with maximum realism! SECRET OF THE MAUSOLEUM OF THE FIRST QIN EMPEROR will guide the audience through the mausoleum in an unprecedented way, allowing them to immerse themselves in the grandeur of the Qin Dynasty over two thousand years ago and attend in person a majestic coronation ceremony. With a virtual reality experience design, ENSEMBLE allows participants be conductors on a symphony podium, to present works by Vivaldi, Dvořák, or Ana Sokolović, by collaborating with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Following a careful selection of 26 masterpieces from China and abroad, this screening is divided into four themes: “Oriental Charm”, “Secrets of Art”, “Myself”, and “Supernatural Realm”, using cutting-edge “black technology” to offer film enthusiasts a top-quality feast.

“Film + Technology” integration offers infinite possibilities for each “frame”! In SIFF XR, in addition to enjoying unique works, viewers can experience the thrill of real track driving in a 1:1 recreated “racing simulator”. They can also wear head-mounted devices like VR goggles, MR glasses, and AR glasses to immerse themselves in the “real” world seen through the protagonist’s eyes, gaining a brand-new viewing experience.

This event is hosted by the Shanghai Film Administration and the People’s Government of Putuo District, organized by the Putuo District Administration of Culture and Tourism and Shanghai International Film & TV Festivals, Co., Ltd., with special thanks to Shanghai Changfeng Investment (Group) Co., Ltd. It will be held from June 14 to 23 in PUSH Art Centre at Puxi Financial Plaza.
