SIFF PROJECT|SIFF PROJECT 2024 Announces the Lineup of Annual Focus Committee
SIFF PROJECT of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) announces today the lineup of the Annual Focus Committee for this year. The president, well-known director, screenwriter and producer Lu Chuan will be joined by producer and supervisor Luca Liang and actress and supervisor Yao Chen as the committee members.
The 17th SIFF PROJECT in 2024 will be held from June 16 to 19 in Shanghai. The three Annual Focus Committee members will be participants throughout the event, giving on-site remarks on the projects at the public presentations of the “NEW TALENT PROJECT” and “WORK-IN PROGRESS PROJECT (WIP)”, communicating with the producers of the “PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT” and “CO-PRODUCTION PROJECT” one by one, and finally selecting the film projects for the four official honors in this section.
President Lu Chuan
Director, Screenwriter, Producer
He is the Chairman of Ape Power Entertainment Group, director, screenwriter and producer. The film works directed by him include The MISSING GUN (2002), KEKEXILI: MOUNTAIN PATROL (2004), CITY OF LIFE AND DEATH (2009), THE LAST SUPPER (2012), CHRONICLES OF THE GHOSTLY TRIBE (2015), BORN IN CHINA (2016), etc., winning the “Golden Shell Prize” at the San Sebastian Film Festival (Spain), and the “Special Jury Prize” at the Tokyo International Film Festival for him. Moreover, he has received more than 40 awards and nominations from domestic and international festivals, including the Golden Rooster Awards, Hong Kong Film Awards, and Golden Horse Awards. His upcoming productions include the movie 749 JU, the drama A LIFE FOR A LIFE, and the dance drama T’IEN-KUNG K’AI-WU.
In addition to film and television creation, Lu Chuan also takes an active part in social and cultural missions, such as his role as the official film director of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the general director of the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and the general director of the main exhibition film OUR JOURNEY of the National Pavilion of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, as well as the artistic director of the opening ceremony and the general director of the opening film of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai.
Committee Member Luca Liang
Producer and Supervisor
She is currently the General Manager of Film Production and Project Development, Senior Supervisor and Producer of Emperor Group. Previously, she taught at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her representative works as a supervisor and producer include TWO THUMBS UP (2015), MIRACLES OF THE NAMIYA GENERAL STORE (2017), A COOL FISH (2018), CAUGHT IN TIME (2020), SCHEMES IN ANTIQUES (2021), CLIFF WALKERS (2021) and END GAME (2021), etc., which are both well-marketed and acclaimed.
Committee Member Yao Chen
Actress and Supervisor
She is the founder of Bad Rabbit Pictures, and also actress and producer. Films she starred in include CAUGHT IN THE WEB (2012), JOURNEY TO THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK (2017), LOST, FOUND (2018), and SEND ME TO THE CLOUDS (2019). As a supervisor, Yao Chen has also co-produced films with young directors, such as SEND ME TO THE CLOUDS (2019), FLAMING CLOUD (2023), and THE CORD OF LIFE (2023). She has won the “Asian Content Award for Best Actress” at the 24th Busan International Film Festival, the “Actress of the Year” at the first Hainan Island International Film Festival, the “Golden Mulberry Award for Outstanding Achievement” at the Far East Film Festival, and the Cinema Icon Award at the 30th Singapore International Film Festival. She has served as a jury member of the Taipei Film Festival, FIRST International Film Festival, Golden Rooster Film Investment Conference and Beijing International Film Festival’s Venture Capital Project.

Established in 2007, SIFF Project has been successfully held for 16 sessions, witnessing 98 projects entering production, of which 72 films have participated in major film festivals both at home and abroad, 53 films have entered competitive feature film festivals for competition and screening, and 68 films have achieved theatrical release.

SIFF PROJECT
Since its inception in 2007, SIFF PROJECT has been organized for 16 editions, witnessing 98 projects entering production. SIFF PROJECT is not only an incubator for outstanding works, but also an important platform for the industry to discover new Chinese cinema talents. Dedicated to bridging industry resources, supporting new Chinese-language filmmakers, and promoting Chinese-foreign cooperation, it has gradually established four sub-units, namely, PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT, CO-PRODUCTION PROJECT, NEW TALENT PROJECT, and WORK-IN PROGRESS PROJECT (WIP), which provide matchmaking services such as incubation, financing, and promotion services for projects at different stages.
