Tribute to Masters｜Director Pema Tseden, See you in the Theater

On May 8, 2023, renowned Tibetan director Pema Tseden passed away due to illness.

Pema Tseden was a director, screenwriter, and producer from Chinese Mainland, and an old friend of the SIFF. His debut feature film “THE SILENT HOLY STONES” was nominated for the Asian New Talent at the 9th SIFF, with him winning the Best Director. His second feature film, “THE SEARCH” received the Grand Jury Prize of the Golden Goblet Awards at the 12th SIFF. In 2014, his film “THE SACRED ARROW” won the Best Cinematographer at the SIFF. In 2016, Pema Tseden was invited as a jury member for the 19th SIFF Golden Goblet Awards. In 2021, he was invited to attend the SIFF Golden Goblet Film Forum and Masterclass. In January 2022, he served as a mentor for the SIFF Next Phase Two.

The SIFF mourns the passing of Pema Tseden. Therefore, we promptly contacted the film producers and included Pema Tseden’s six representative works in the “Tribute to Masters” at the 25th SIFF, to remember him through his wonderful works.
