SIFF PROJECT|SIFF PROJECT 2023 Announced Finalists

SIFF PROJECT of the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) announced today the finalists. A total of 33 feature-length projects have been shortlisted, including 8 from the NEW TALENT PROJECT, 2 from the CO-PRODUCTION PROJECT, 13 from the PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT and 10 from the WORK-IN PROGRESS PROJECT (WIP). And this year, SIFF PROJECT will take place in Shanghai from June 12 to 15.

Due to the postponement of the 25th SIFF from 2022 to 2023, SIFF PROJECT received a total of 679 entries in two years, of which 457 were for the NEW TALENT PROJECT, 20 were for the CO-PRODUCTION PROJECT, 120 were for the PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT and 82 were for the WORK-IN PROGRESS PROJECT (WIP).

After careful selection, a total of 33 projects were shortlisted for this year's SIFF PROJECT. This year, a number of noteworthy new projects by emerging Chinese directors are recommended. Aside from the debut feature film projects highlighted in the NEW TALENT PROJECT, the projects from the PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT also bring surprises by presenting the second works of directors who have already made their mark at major film festivals, and the CO-PRODUCTION PROJECT is proud to feature the latest project by Tan Chui Mui, director of BARBARIAN INVASION, which took the Jury Grand Prix prize at the previous session of SIFF.

There are also a number of projects that have been incubated through SIFF's "6+1" step-by-step mechanism for nurturing new talent in the lineup. MOMENTS ELUDING, STAND OUT, THE NINTH TYPHOON CLUB and THE WOMEN I NEVER MET (formerly, DUCKWEED) for NEW TALENT PROJECT and PRE-PRODUCTION PROJECT were originally developed in the SIFF NEXT programme, while UNTAMED, X-PLAN and ALL, OR NOTHING AT ALL for the WORK-IN PROGRESS PROJECT (WIP) were previously selected as screenplays by SIFF PROJECT and are now back in production in Shanghai. And the previous film work LOVE AND SHUKLA by Jatla Siddartha, who directed IN THE BELLY OF A TIGER, was screened at SIFF in 2018.
