TRIBUTE TO MASTERS｜Godard: the eternal "God of Film"

On September 13, 2022, the acclaimed filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard passed away at his home in Switzerland at the age of 91. With his passing, the five iconic directors of the French New Wave movement are now reunited in heaven. In 2015, SIFF screened 7 representative works of Godard in its TRIBUTE TO MASTERS unit. This year, to honor Godard's memory, the unit will once again present a retrospective exhibition of his films, providing audiences with an opportunity to remember the eternal "God of Film.”

This year, SIFF has carefully selected 11 of Jean-Luc Godard's films for audiences, providing a valuable addition to previous screenings. The selection not only includes short films, feature films, documentaries and dramas, but also aims to showcase the trajectory of Godard's work across different stages - from his first short film in the 1950s to his last feature film in 2018 - presenting a comprehensive and multifaceted view of the "God of Film" to audiences.
