The ultimate shooting challenge for young film makers, and the international vision of emerging Chinese cinema workers. The 2nd SIFF SHOOTING 48H now starts recruitment for the whole society. This year, SIFF SHOOTING 48H will be held in the Shanghai International Resort, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. With the theme of "To Create for the Future", it is committed to discovering vanguard film makers and making unlimited possibilities available for "dream chasers". Taking the M-Station as the creation and incubation base, this programme will leverage the supporting policies of the Shanghai International Resort for the film and TV industry for outstanding young creators to settle down and grow here in Shanghai.

Expand the international vision and start a new filming journey of young creators

Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) introduced "SIFF SHOOTING 48H" in 2021. The competition system is developed around time-limited, scene-limited and random theme creation. Creators are required to complete the whole process of script creation, on-site shooting, and editing within 48 hours, and finally submit a short film that runs for about 10 minutes. Be it in terms of work creation or teamwork, it is an extreme challenge and endurance test for all participating teams.

This year, SIFF SHOOTING 48H will be unveiled for the first time in the Shanghai International Resort. While continuing the extreme competition system from the first session, it will take a wider international view to echo the BELT AND ROAD FILM WEEK activities of SIFF. Teams of outstanding young directors from various countries are welcomed to participate in the competition, to further promote the exchange and mutual learning among young film creators across the world.

Every team that intends to participate in SIFF SHOOTING 48H must coordinate and come with directors, producers, photographers, lighting personnel, art personnel and other functional personnel as well as the cast. The directors of each team shall have made at least one short film work before. The organizing committee will shortlist 8 teams from the registered teams for this challenge.

According to this year's schedule, the deadline for registration will be May 20.

No limit to dreams - the young creators build filming dreams in Pudong

Aside from launching the recruitment of participating teams, this SIFF SHOOTING 48H has also made public the themed poster.

This year, SIFF SHOOTING 48H will provide each participating team with RMB 20,000 as shooting funds and equipment support, and invite senior producers and directors in the industry as mentors to provide training and guidance for limited-time creation. Senior filmmakers in the industry will also be invited to form an honorary recommendation team to select the entries, and finally determine the winner of the three honors: best short film, best director, and best screenwriter. The champion team that wins the best short film will not only receive an additional RMB 30,000 creation subsidy, but will also be invited to participate in the awards ceremony and red carpet ceremony of this SIFF. Also, it will have the opportunity to be shortlisted in the film and TV talent pool of Shanghai International Resort, and get further support from the resort based on the creation progress.

The shared space of M-Station will serve as the "base" for the post-production of this SIFF SHOOTING 48H, offering relevant post-production support and logistics support services to participating teams.

In recent years, Pudong New Area has made an all-round deployment for the development of the film and TV industry. Shanghai International Resort has actively built an industrial ecology that encompasses film and TV creation, film and TV incubation and industrial park, and film and TV technology, and is dedicated to pooling new forces of film creation. According to the relevant provisions of the “14th Five-Year Plan” special funds for the development of film, TV, cultural and creative industries in Shanghai International Resort, the resort will actively encourage and strongly support the production of related works and the introduction of industrial talents. For example, production units are welcomed to shoot and produce film, TV and entertainment works in Pudong New Area, and carry out post-production especially in the resort, and they are encouraged to make local expenditures for film, TV and entertainment work production, with the maximum support amount reaching RMB 5 million; key talents in the film, TV, and entertainment industry are encouraged to set up master studios and conduct business in the resort, film, TV and entertainment training institutions and film and TV training projects are encouraged to settle in the resort, and it is encouraged to introduce domestic and foreign professional and technical personnel.
