Regulations for Asian New Talent Award
This regulation applies to films and participants applying for Asian New Talent Award (hereinafter referred to asANTA) of Shanghai International Film Festival (hereinafter referred to as SIFF or the Festival).
All dates referred to in this regulation are based on Beijing Time.
ANTA, facing whole Asian areas in film industry, aims at gathering new forces in film creativity, excavating/tapping fresh young faces on screens, and boosting newly made productions by young film makers into worldwide perspective, therefore building up an efficient platform for Asian movies.
In 2017, the 20th SIFF will be held from June 17th (Sat.) to June 26th (Mon.), and ANTA will be held from June 17th (Sat.) to June 23rd (Fri.).
In 2017, ANTA will present the following six awards to young film makers and talents from no more than five nominations/nominees for each award.
Best Script Writer
SIFF invites international and domestic veteran film professionals to constitute ANTA Jury to vote for final winners which/whom will be officially announced at the grand awarding ceremony of ANTA. No person involved in the production or any commercial development of any nominated films or nominee’s competition films at ANTA should sit on ANTA Jury.
Criteria and Prize for each award:
A film which is one of the first two long fiction films directed by a Director of Asian nationality is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Film consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 150,000 (tax included).
A Director of Asian nationality, the competition film directed by whom is one of his/her first two long fiction films is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Director consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 150,000 (tax included).
An Actress of Asian nationality, whose competition film is one of the first two long fiction films in which she plays starring role or supporting role, is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Actress consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 50,000 (tax included).
An Actor of Asian nationality, whose competition film is one of the first two long fiction films in which he plays starring role or supporting role, is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Actress consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 50,000 (tax included).
Best Script Writer
A Script Writer of Asian nationality, the competition film written by whom is one of his/her first two long fiction films, is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Script Writer consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 50,000 (tax included).
A Cinematographer of Asian nationality, the competition film shot by whom is one of his/her first two long fiction films, is eligible to apply for this award; The Prize for Best Cinematographer consists of a Trophy, a Certificate and a Premium of RMB 50,000 (tax included).
1) All films applying for ANTA must be completed in the country of origin after June 1, 2016.
2) Format: 35 mm film print or DCP complying with theSPECIFICATIONS
3) The minimum running time is 70 minutes.
All films and applicants must complete on-line registration at SIFF official website www.siff.com. The deadline for registration is April 15th, 2017. To compete for any of the six above awards, online application should start with “Asian New Talent Award” after entering the page of “FILM ENTRY >APPLY>BASIC”, and then select an award/awards that the film and /or applicant(s) compete for by filling in relevant information.
DVD screeners for preview (in standard or high definition format and consistent in content with the film copies to be shipped to SIFF if nominated) should be mailed to the following address no later than April 20th, 2017.

SIFF will nominate no more than five films or nominees for each award of ANTA from all films or applicants. No film or applicant nominated may be withdrawn for any reason from ANTA once SIFF’s nomination has been officially confirmed by the film submitter. Such confirmation shall be deemed as an authorization given by the film submitter to license and make all other relevant right holders license the nominated film or nominee’s competition film being shown on the screens of designated theaters by the Organizing Committee of SIFF during the Festival. Nominated films and nominees shall sign the authorization letters accordingly. During the entire Festival, none of aforesaid films will be shown outside the Festival's designated theaters.
The Festival encourages producers or distributors of the nominated films or nominees’ competition films to promote and advertise films by putting up posters at the Festival designated location. The Festival’s press office may request producers or distributors to provide numbers of film posters, brochures, stills and trailers for promotion purposes at producers or distributors’ costs.
All the materials and documentation of each nominated film and nominee, including but not limited to film stills, photo of director for catalogue uses, as well as English subtitled/dialogue list, poster and film trailer, must reach the Festival before April 30th, 2017.

Copies of the nominated films must reach the above consignee before May 31st, 2017.
*Please kindly inform SIFF the film title, screening format (35mm or DCP), the date of sending, and AWB number through e-mail.
Film prints/DCPs will be returned to the address indicated by the film submitters or film lenders within two weeks since the end of the Festival.
Films in languages other than English, including in Chinese Mandarin, must be subtitled in English. Films in minority languages or dialects must be subtitled in both Chinese and English. The film submitters must provide the Festival with complete English subtitled lists which are in accordance with those on the film prints /DCPs.
For versions not corresponding exactly to these requirements, the Festival will decide at its own discretion whether the films in question are acceptable. All films nominated and nominees’ competition films will be electronically subtitled in Chinese during the Festival. Translation of subtitles from English to Chinese and the screening of the subtitles will be complimentarily operated by the Festival.
All the costs and expenses for the shipment, customs and insurance of preview screeners and film prints/DCPs for screen to the Festival, are the entire responsibility of the film submitters or copies lenders.
The Festival will pay for the insurance and storage during the period from the receipt of the film prints/DCPs to the return of the film prints/DCPs to the Forwarding Agent appointed by the Festival, as well as freight and insurance fee for the return of the fil m prints/DCPs.(For the avoidance of doubt, the costs of storage and customs fees of film prints/DCPs incurred after they are shipped out to the destination airports or ports shall be borne by the film submitters or copies lenders.
In case of damage to or lost of film prints/DCP during the period from the receipt of the same by the Forwarding Agent to the departure of such film prints/DCPs from Shanghai, the Festival is only responsible for the costs equal to the current price of making a new copy in the same standard in such film prints/DCP’s place of origin.
The entering into force, performance and interpretation of this regulation shall be subject to laws of the People’s Republic of China (for the special purpose of this regulation, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are not included). The Festival holds full right to fullest extent as permitted by laws to explain all cases on ANTA for those which are not presented in this regulation.
Application for ANTA implies adherence to this regulation. It is the responsibility of the film submitters to ensure that it is legitimate for them to submit a film or represent the individual(s) to apply for any ANTA.
SIFF Organization Committee reserves the right of final explanation of all above articles.
