AMAZING SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Facts and Figures of the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival 2018 (June 16-25, 2018):
Submission: 3447 films from 108 countries and regions.
Film panorama: 492 films were screened at 45 cinemas across the city; a total number of 1621 public screenings；over 46 million people watched films.
SIFFORUM: in the 11 sessions held during the festival, over 90 guests from China and around the world exchanged experiences and ideas. The topics included：CHINESE FILMS IN THE NEW ERA、INDUSTRIALIZATION OF CHINESE CINEMA、GOLDEN GOBLET MASTER CLASS: FILMMAKING WITH JIANG WEN、THE BELT AND ROAD FILM CULTURE ROUNDTABLE TALK、THE REFORM AND OPENING UP OF CHINESE FILMS、EMERGING FILMMAKERS PANEL: THE GOOD, THE FLEDGLING, AND THE AUDACIOUS、ANIMATION: THE BREAKTHROUGH OF CROSS-CULTURAL FILM COOPERATION?、THE BELT AND ROAD FILMMAKER SALON: SMALL SCREEN, BIG WORLD、NEW APPROACHES FOR GREATER DIVERSITY OF CHINESE CINEMA、OPERA FILM PANEL、A RENDEZ-VOUS WITH JESSE EISENBERG.
The Belt and Road Film Week: The 21st SIFF The Belt and Road Film Week has received 1369 submissions from 49 countries along the Belt and Road. After appraisal and selection, 154 productions along either became the competition films for the Golden Goblet Awards, or entered major panorama programs. On the first day, the representatives from 31 film festivals and institutions in the 29 countries along Belt and Road signed the Memorandum of Cooperation. At the SIFF Film Market, the Belt and Road National Pavilion attracted 7 filmmakers and film institutions to have The Belt and Road Film Culture Showcase by Nation from over 29 nations and regions.
Film market: the total exhibition area was 16,000 square meters; there were 293 exhibitors, attracting 19698 person-times of visitors; the Belt and Road National Pavilion was set up at the scene, with the participation of the filmmakers and film institutions from over 29 nations and regions.
SIFF PROJECT: 399 applications from 12 countries and regions were received and were shortlisted to 42 projects, with 10 selected for the New Talent Project and 6 for SIFF PROJECT LAB.
Classic film restoration: The 4K restored film Le Peintre, which was jointly presented by SIFF and Jaeger-LeCoultre, premiered on June 17, 2018.
Media coverage: 1,338 journalists from 384 mainstream media organizations from around the globe covered the festival.
