Bona Film Group's Shanghai headquarters will be based in the International Film Zone around Shanghai University.

Bona Film Group announced yesterday at the 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival that its Shanghai headquarters will be based in the International Film Zone around Shanghai University.

The group also announced 12 new film production projects that will be set against the backdrop of Shanghai. The movies will be shot in the city in the coming year and some will depict its unique customs and traditions.

Celebrated filmmakers Ann Hui, Andrew Lau, Li Shaohong and Huang Jianxin will helm the projects which will cover diverse styles and genres, such as cop dramas, historical epics, suspense and romance.

Supported by municipal and district governments, the film zone in Jing'an District has begun to take shape as a key culture hub in the city.

Bona Film Group aims to continue supporting the zone's development by bringing more high quality and original film projects to the city.

It has reached a framework agreement with China Huarong Asset Management, China's largest financial asset management company, to establish a culture industry foundation management company in the zone.

The foundation will raise 5 billion yuan for investment, mergers and acquisitions in the culture industry. Officials said it will greatly foster the industry's growth in Shanghai.

Bona Film Group's Shanghai headquarters will consist of film studios, theaters, film gallery and new film technology R&D base.

Famous 5th generation director Huang Jianxin expressed support for the project.

"The glory of the Chinese film industry originated in Shanghai," Huang said." I am glad to see that we have a new beginning in this lucky city and look forward to shooting my new film here.”
