The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), founded in 1993, is China’s only A-category international film festival accredited by the FIAPF.
As China’s film industry is growing rapidly and now in globalization, SIFF is working on building an international platform with four main programs including Competition, SIFF Mart, SIFFORUM, and International Film Panorama to promote the China’s industry and cooperation with the rest of the world.
Recently, with the booming economy and rising international status, China’s film industry drew attention from all over the world for its role in lifting the country’s soft power. Every June, the annual Shanghai International Film Festival is a must-see event for filmmakers and has established its reputation for its clout and the impact it makes on presenting multi-cultural fare.
Competition
SIFF’s competition includes the Golden Goblet Award, the Asian New Talent Award, and the International Student Shorts Award, all of which have renowned filmmakers as jurors.
The Golden Goblet Award is the core section of SIFF’s competition. It showcases SIFF’s authority and influence. The jury of the Golden Goblet Award consists of seven film industry notables. The Asian New Talent Award aims at identifying and promoting the new bright lights and encouraging their creativity. The International Student Shorts Award provides the industry’s freshmen with a chance to show their accomplishments.
SIFF Mart
SIFF Mart consists of the Film Market, China Film Pitch and Catch (CFPC), and Co-production Film Pitch and Catch (Co-FPC).
The Film Market is the most professional film trade platform in China. Every year, it involves international producers, distributors and buyers. CFPC and Co-FPC serve as a bridge to connect the film project and investor while at the same time play a role in discovering new talent.
SIFFORUM
Following the principle of “China’s Way and World’s value”, SIFFORUM serves the whole industry and is the most important communication platform. The SIFFORUM has four parts: President Lecture, Keynote Seminar, Round Table, and Master Class with over 10 seminars. It is not only the platform but also leads the industry.
International Film Panorama
The International Film Panorama includes sections of OFFICIAL SELECTION, WORLD CINEMAS, TRIBUTE TO MASTERS, VIEW CHINA, GLOBAL VILLAGE and DOCUMENTARY AND SHORTS. The screening film is different in style and is an opportunity to inform both the public and the media about the latest in world cinema.
